While Spain and Italy ranked slightly lower than California for producing red wines, wine expert, Simon woods, would not advise avoid trying red wines from these regions. In fact, quite the opposite. On occasion these regions can flourish in produce quality wines at a slightly more affordable price.
All good wine professionals will taste a wine first and then look at the name on the label later.
My best advice for choosing a bottle of wine is to remain sceptical of anything cheap from locations which are known for high quality wines – Bordeaux, Burgundy, California. If you’re looking for a good value wine, head for less vaunted parts of the winemaking world – southern France, Portugal, southern Italy.
