Celebrity chef and entrepreneur Kathy Fang elevates dining experience with beloved urban winery and pioneer of the natural wine movement
SAN FRANCISCO (June 17, 2024) – Kathy Fang, chef and owner of Fang restaurant and House of Nanking, cookbook author, and television personality, is delighted to announce the release of the 2023 Broc x House of Nanking + Fang Sparkling Chenin Blanc, now available exclusively by the bottle at Fang and House of Nanking for $32 or for purchase online directly from Broc Cellars. Created in collaboration with a local leader in the natural wine movement, Broc Cellars in Berkeley, CA, the crisp, vibrant and refreshing sparkling wine is perfect for the summer and complements Fang’s imaginative Chinese dishes such as saucy fried tofu, delicate soy chili poached white fish and juicy crispy pork potstickers, all brilliantly fashioned by Chef Fang.
“We have always wanted to partner with a local winery, and Broc Cellars Sparkling Chenin Blanc is the ideal pairing for our mainstay dishes our customers keep coming back for. It’s also the perfect time of year to enjoy this wine out on our patio at House of Nanking,” said Chef Kathy Fang.” This collaboration represents our shared passion for quality, innovation, and the celebration of unique flavors.”
Fang, in its 15th year in business, has long been a beacon of culinary excellence in San Francisco and is celebrated for its innovative approach to Chinese cuisine with a twist. This partnership with Broc Cellars represents a fusion of Fang’s culinary artistry and Broc Cellars’ commitment to natural, artisanal winemaking. The sparkling Chenin Blanc is crafted using organic grapes, resulting in a wine that is both vibrant and complex, perfectly complementing Fang’s deeply flavorful dishes.
Broc Cellars, located in the heart of Berkeley, has been an influential pioneer in the United States natural wine scene, and is committed to organic and biodynamic farming practices. Their hands-off approach to winemaking allows the character of the grapes and the vineyard to shine through, resulting in wines that are distinctive and full of life. Chenin Blanc, a grape that originated in France’s Loire Valley, makes a sparkling wine with tart melon and peach notes and a roundness and body that stands up to the spice and intensity of Chinese cuisine.
“We are excited to partner with Chef Kathy to showcase the versatility and elegance of our Sparkling Chenin Blanc,” said Chris Brockway, founder of Broc Cellars. “Our collaboration with Fang is a testament to the Bay Area’s incredible diversity and creativity. It celebrates the global influences that inspire us and the distinctly Californian style that emerges when these influences harmonize.”
The 2023 Chenin Blanc grapes are harvested from Shell Creek Vineyard in Paso Robles. After a few hours on the skins, the grapes are directly pressed into stainless steel tanks with five percent of Orange Muscat from Lodi to encourage natural fermentation.
The custom wine label with a crown cap closure features a dragon, representing 2024’s Zodiac sign that symbolizes power, nobility, honor, luck, and success.
