Nectar of the Dogs Wine Brings Home Double Gold from Southern California Wine Competition

Simi Valley, CA, June 20, 2024 – Simi Valley’s first and only winery, Nectar of the Dogs Wine earned multiple awards from the prestigious Orange County (OC) Fair and Commercial Wine Competition, including Double Gold for its 2023 “3 Dogs White” Viognier blend.

The charitable wine company’s selections were among 2,518 entries from hundreds of wineries in this year’s competition which awarded 147 Double Gold and 439 Gold medals, in addition to Silver and Bronze medals. Following is an overview of all the awards Nectar of the Dogs Wine earned:

  • Double Gold – 94: 2023 “3 Dogs White” Viognier blend

○      A proprietary blend of Viognier from Paso Robles, this vibrant wine delivers rich aromatics of peach, honeysuckle and lime zest with an enjoyable viscous mouthfeel and a clean bright finish to the palate.

  • Silver: 2022 “CCF” Cab/Cab Franc blend

○      A lush blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Estrella and Templeton Gap districts of Paso Robles, and 20% Cabernet Franc from sustainably farmed vineyards in Lodi.

  • Silver: 2022 “OG3” Cabernet Franc

○      From sustainably farmed vineyards in Lodi, this wine offers aromas of cherry cola and wet slate with flavors of bramble berry, blackberry cobbler and forest floor. Mild tannins and a nice lengthy finish carries right into the next sip.

  • Silver: 2022 Oaked Chardonnay

○      Finished in neutral French Oak barrels, this Chardonnay shows notes of peach, Granny Smith apple and baking spices. Its creamy mouthfeel is complimented with a light touch of butteriness and a bright balanced finish.

  • Bronze: 2022 Sauvignon Blanc

○      A classic California Sauvignon Blanc made from a beautiful selection of grapes from the MacLeod, Hi-Vista and Denmark vineyards in the Sonoma Valley. This crisp wine offers up ripe tropical fruit flavors with a refreshing acidity and floral background.

We are grateful to everyone involved with the OC Fair and Commercial Wine Competition for their hard work and the recognition they gave to our small winery.”

Nectar of the Dogs Wine donates a percentage of its bottle wine sales to support nonprofit dog rescue organizations. In 2023, the company donated $10,000 to various rescue partners. This year they have partnered with Outta the Cage to help in their efforts to get pets out of crowded shelters and into loving foster or forever homes.

The Nectar of the Dogs Wine tasting room is open in the Ventura County town of Simi Valley. Reservations are not required but recommended for larger groups. It is open Thursday 4-9 p.m., Friday 5-9 p.m., Saturday 1-9 p.m., and Sunday 12-6 p.m. Visit the website for a calendar of events and live music.
