Librandi Publishes Its Fourth Sustainability Report

A New Chapter in the Long History of the Calabrian Winery’s Environmental and Social Commitment

Cirò Marina (Crotone), June 14th 2024 – Librandi, a renowned winery deeply rooted in the Calabrian territory, is proud to announce the publication of its 2024 Sustainability Report. This is the fourth edition since the launch of the Equalitas certification process in 2020, once again marking an important milestone in the path of transparency and responsibility that has always characterized the company. “Sustainability for us is not just a strategy, but a principle that guides every decision we make,” says the Librandi family. “With the 2024 Sustainability Report, we aim not only to account for what we have achieved but also to inspire and promote positive and lasting change. Every step we take to protect our environment and support our community reflects our respect for the land that nurtures us and the culture that unites us. We are determined to continue on this path, with the commitment to leave future generations a more welcoming and sustainable world.”

The 2024 Sustainability Report, published shortly before the usual annual review that reconfirmed the Equalitas sustainability standard for the fourth consecutive year, offers a detailed overview of the latest environmental, social, and economic initiatives. In particular, the document testifies the Librandi family’s deep commitment to territorial specificity and the preservation of native grape varieties, a cornerstone of the company’s philosophy since its inception. The current edition of the document also focuses on an increasing social commitment towards direct stakeholders and the local community, as evidenced by the annual blood donation event in collaboration with AVIS. Furthermore, it reflects an intensified focus on biodiversity protection in the vineyard, significantly enhanced by the path undertaken with the Biopass project, an Italian project by SATA Studio Agronomico for measuring, safeguarding, and increasing biodiversity in viticulture. This project indeed allows the company to “self-monitor,” exploring and protecting the biological richness of the estate soils, where vital microenvironments for a multitude of organisms have been discovered, addressing fundamental issues and processes dictated by new contingencies influenced by global warming, with the consequent need to explore resilience, biodiversity, and sustainability in the agricultural sector.

Among the new sustainability initiatives for 2023-2024, Librandi has adopted innovative agricultural practices to mitigate the effects of climate change, such as delaying pruning to prevent damage from late frosts and planting honey plants between the rows, such as vetch, fava beans, and mustard, to support bee populations, increasingly at risk but crucial for the vine and surrounding environment’s life cycle, also assisted by the installation of several hives in the Rosaneti Estate vineyards. To further consolidate this commitment, Librandi has introduced “Bug Hotels” to protect beneficial fauna, and birdhouses made from recycled materials are being installed, demonstrating a creative and sustainable approach to biodiversity conservation. The company also continues to preserve vast stretches of woods and Mediterranean scrub, significantly contributing to the health of the local landscape.

Librandi’s 2024 Sustainability Report is available to the public on the official website https://www.librandi.it/en/sustainability , inviting customers, partners, and all interested parties to explore the details of the initiatives and progress made.
