Just in Time for World Lambrusco Day on June 21, Benchmark Producer Cleto Chiarli Unveils a New Look and Name for One of Its Most Popular Bottlings

(June 4, 2024; Modena, IT)—Cleto Chiarli, the leading family owned Lambrusco producer based in Modena, Italy, is thrilled to unveil, with its 2023 vintage, the beautifully redesigned label for Vecchia Modena Nero (SRP $18), formerly known as Vigneto Cialdini.

The reimagined Vecchia Modena Nero label is the visual sibling to Cleto Chiarli’s famed Vecchia Modena Lambrusco di Sorbara, meant to showcase the diverse styles of Lambrusco—from pale Sorbara to opaque Grasparossa—and from a design standpoint illuminates Cleto Chiarli’s history as a leading producer in Emilia Romagna with deep roots, both culturally and geographically in Modena.

“As Lambrusco consumption continues to steadily rise, we see an invaluable opportunity to educate the curious masses on the many diverse flavors and styles of Lambrusco,” explains Tommaso Chiarli, owner of Cleto Chiarli. “Due to the darker, richer, and fuller body of Vecchia Moderno Nero in contrast to the lighter Vecchia Modena Lambrusco di Sorbara, we reimaged the name and packaging to cue these key differences for consumers.”

Tommaso Chiarli is the fifth generation of Chiarli’s dedicated to producing high-end artisanal Lambrusco with estate-grown fruit from their VIVA-certified sustainable vineyards. The Vecchia Modena Nero moves into the Vecchia Modena portfolio, imported by Dalla Terra Winery Direct, alongside the Rosé di Noir Brut Vino Spumante (SRP $18), Vecchia Modena Premium Lambrusco di Sorbara DOC Brut Frizzante (SRP $18), Lambrusco del Fondatore di Sorbara DOC (SRP $21), Centenario Lambrusco di Modena DOC Amabile (SRP $15), Organic Lambrusco di Modena DOC (SRP $16), Pruno Nero Modena DOC Lambrusco Dry Spumante (SRP $17) and Centenario Lambrusco di Modena DOC Rosato Demi-Sec (SRP $13).

Dalla Terra Winery Direct is the sole importer of Cleto Chiarli in the United States. “We are delighted to introduce this new label, which is currently available in the U.S. market,” says Sam Kass, Vice President of Portfolio Management for Dalla Terra Winery Direct. “We have been a proud importer of this benchmark Emilia Romagna producer for more than a decade and with good reason, they do it all so well. There is nothing more fun than exploring all the shades and styles of Lambrusco, and Cleto Chiarli remains at the top of their game vintage after vintage.”

About Cleto Chiarli

The Chiarli family of Modena have been artfully crafting Lambrusco since the mid-1800s when founder Cleto Chiarli began making wine for patrons dining at his restaurant, Modena restaurant Osteria dell’Artigliere. Being in Emilia-Romagna, Chiarli’s wine was appropriately made with Lambrusco grapes and became such a success amongst customers that he decided to start Cantina Cleto Chiarli in 1860, Emilia Romagna’s first-ever wine company. Moving into the 21st century, the fourth generation of Cleto Chiarli’s, Mauro Chiarli and Anselmo Chiarli, and fifth generation, Tommaso Chiarli, now oversee the winery’s Lambrusco production based in Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro DOC and the family vineyards— 414 hectares of land total, 131 of which are vineyards planted to Lambrusco Grasparossa, Lambursco di Sorbara and Grechetto Gentile vines in the Modena province—which are all certified VIVA under the government’s Sustainable Viticulture Program.
