Darioush Announces the 2021 Vintage Release of Darius II, the Crown Jewel of the Darioush Estate

The bottle features a 19th century watercolor by architect-designer Owen Jones and was influenced by ancient Persian embellishment.

NAPA, CA – (August 3, 2024) — Darioush, a leading Cabernet estate in Napa Valley, proudly announces the release of the 2021 Darius II. A celebration of the Darioush Estate and Darioush Khaledi’s heritage, it features Persian-inspired artwork by architect-designer Owen Jones (1809–74). Since 1999, Darioush has produced their top offering, Darius II Cabernet Sauvignon, and since 2014 has been collaborating with the V&A (Victoria and Albert Museum) in London, United Kingdom, to handpick historical artwork from the museum’s extensive collections to adorn their bottle. The 2021 Darius II Cabernet Sauvignon is available through the winery’s First Offering Membership at darioush.com.

A study in power and poise, 2021 Darius II is a distinct blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon with lesser proportions of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot created by Vice President of Winemaking Hope Goldie and consultant Michel Rolland. Captivating aromas of dark berry fruit, espresso crema, and Belgian chocolate set the stage for a seamless, beautifully textured wine experience highlighting delineated flavors of blackberry puree and cassis co-mingling with savory notes of thyme and bay leaf. Elegantly structured, 2021 Darius II will reward the patient collector.

“The annual release of Darius II is deeply personal for me, and this vintage is especially satisfying after not having created it in 2020” says Proprietor Darioush Khaledi. “Darius II represents the very best qualities and characteristics of the vintage and also our vineyards across Napa Valley including high atop Mount Veeder, and on Spring Mountain.” For the past ten years, our collaboration with the V&A has enabled us to honor history and celebrate the richness of Persian culture by adorning this exceptional wine with labels showcasing remarkable works of art.”

On the 2021 vintage offering, the V&A’s Licensing and Research Development Manager, Amelia Calver, denotes, “Jones’ work remains a constant source of inspiration. Not only does his artwork grace the halls and galleries of our institution, but remnants of his design for the so-called “Oriental Court” may still be located beneath the V&A’s exhibition hall.” She adds, “his intricately detailed and harmoniously balanced work celebrates the best of Persian design, making it the perfect fit for Darioush’s 2021 Darius II label.”
