La Genisia Zoning Project: Combining Scientific Precision and Winemaking Passion to Elevate Oltrepo’ Pavese Terroir

Codevilla (Pavia) May 29th 2024 – La Genisia, renowned winery nestled in the green hills of Oltrepò Pavese, continues to redefine the boundaries of quality viticulture through its innovative zoning project, a milestone in winemaking that combines advanced scientific methods with a deep dedication to the land.

The zoning project, developed in collaboration with the University of Milan and led by the combined expertise of winemaker Simone Fiori and Professor Luca Valenti, is an excellent example of how science can enhance the understanding and expression of terroir. This detailed approach allows La Genisia not only to map but also to optimize the cultivation of each individual vineyard, ensuring that each grape can express the quintessence of its varietal characteristics.

Through zoning, La Genisia identifies the specific peculiarities of different land parcels by meticulously studying of soil composition, environmental conditions, and climatic variations. This precise mapping, supported by the installation of six weather stations in the climatic macro-areas of 600 hectares of vineyards, enables the adoption of precise and targeted viticultural practices, further refined to perfectly match the characteristics of each zone.

The impact of this project is tangible in the superior quality of the wines produced, which truly express their place of origin. The grape varieties, selected from 70 hectares of excellent land, are mainly cultivated on hillsides, with altitudes ranging from 250 to 600 meters, in ideal conditions for the optimal grape maturation.

The La Genisia Project goes beyond mere analysis and selection. It is a dynamic dialogue between science and nature, leading to the creation of distinctive wines, such as the Pinot Nero dell’Oltrepò Pavese D.O.C. a symbol of excellence and ambassador of the winery’s savoir-faire. These wines are elegantly reflecting the quality of the Pinot Noir grapes, the flagship variety of the region.

This sophisticated zoning process fits perfectly into La Genisia’s philosophy, which aims for an authentic and respectful interpretation of the winemaking heritage of Oltrepò Pavese, a territory with a unique oenological vocation in Europe. With a vision that looks to the future and a commitment to excellence that extends from the vineyard to the bottle, La G sets new standards in the wine world, demonstrating that quality arises from the synthesis of innovation, respect for tradition, and careful and conscious management of the wine landscape.

La Genisia invites enthusiasts, experts, and the curious to discover not only its wines but also the art and science behind their creation, offering an experience that goes beyond simple tasting to become a deep and nuanced exploration of the Oltrepò Pavese terroir.
