Humble Treasures: Selection of vintage Chartreuse liqueurs: Tau, MOF, 9th centenary, elixir liqueur, vegetable elixir, yellow, green

Geneva, May 23, 2024 – Baghera/wines is delighted to unveil “Humble Treasures,” a unique private collection of Chartreuse liqueurs meticulously assembled by a French enthusiast from the Rhône-Alpes region over the past decade. Now in its seventh edition, the “KIPLING” sales offer a quarterly format appreciated by collectors who prefer thematic auctions. This prestigious auction will take place on Wednesday, June 5, in Geneva, with the auctioneer officiating live. The sale will be exclusively streamed live on bagherawines.com and will highlight more than 800 rare bottles of various formats, each embodying a rich and fascinating history.

The Legend of Chartreuse

The story of Chartreuse liqueur, which began in 1605 at the Vauvert Monastery in Paris, is much more than just a spirit. It is a living witness to the tumultuous history of France and the art of distilling herbal liqueurs in Europe. In 1903, facing the expulsion of the Carthusian monks, production was moved to Tarragona in Spain, marking the beginning of a legendary period for this liqueur. Despite political and economic challenges, the Carthusian monks continued to produce this iconic liqueur until 1989, when distillation in Tarragona ceased, making bottles from this era particularly prized by collectors. Since then, the liqueur has been exclusively produced in France, first in Voiron and more recently since 2018 in Entre-Deux-Guiers at the Aiguenoire site, on the western edge of the Chartreuse massif.

An Extraordinary Collection

“Humble Treasures” stands out for its diversity and rarity. This collection covers the production periods of Voiron, Tarragona, and Aiguenoire, offering connoisseurs an unmatched range of unique bottles. Each bottle tells a distinct story, reflecting subtle variations in production methods and environmental conditions over the centuries. The collection is a testament to the passion and dedication of a single collector who spent over ten years gathering these treasures. It is a true odyssey of perseverance and knowledge, bringing together the best of Chartreuse productions into a cohesive and prestigious collection. Baghera/wines is proud to present “Humble Treasures” as the flagship collection of prestigious Chartreuse liqueurs, adhering to its uncompromising standards of excellence, provenance, and preservation.
