May 9, 2024, New York, NY—Iconic Sicilian winery, Planeta, will be unveiling a contemporary new look for its La Segreta line of wines with the release of the 2021 vintage for its red wines and the 2023 vintage for its white wines, rolling out nationwide beginning May 2024. The collection includes La Segreta Grillo and La Segreta Nero d’Avola, as well as La Segreta Bianco and La Segreta Rosso, each retailing for a suggested price of $19.99.

With the release of the 2023 vintage, the entire portfolio of Planeta wines will be certified organic, including the La Segreta range. The winery is also proud of its certification of SOStain, a foundation promoting sustainability founded in 2021

whose ten-point action program ranges from vineyard management and use of locally sourced raw material to energy use and transparency in communications. The updated packaging is modern and refined, featuring poetic designs inspired by 18th-century Sicilian naturalist Giuseppe Riggio’s illustrated herbarium of the island’s flora. Riggio’s artwork, in collaboration with Rovai Weber Design Studio, masterfully interpreted Planeta’s relationship with a new Sicily that is committed to sustainability. The new labels offer a sense of simplicity and artistry, showcasing the wine’s name, origin, and unique floral design for each expression. Its focused color schemes against a white background make for clarity and vibrancy on the retail shelf. The Grillo labels feature florals in lavender and golden yellow, while the Nero d’Avola boasts a range of rich reds. Earth-toned oranges and yellows adorn the Bianco, and the Rosso makes a bold statement with bright red and purple botanicals.

Origins of La Segreta

On the shores of Lake Arancio in Sicily, on Planeta’s Ulmo estate, lies a hidden grove of elm and laurel trees that shelters a secret spring. This once-important rest stop for travelers became a magical spot for the Planeta family to explore the area’s natural treasures. It was here that founder Diego Planeta told his family he intended to plant a vineyard. This was the birthplace of Planeta’s extraordinary journey into winemaking and enotourism.

Those first wines grown on Ulmo’s hidden trove launched Planeta’s La Segreta label, which became a true line of wines in 2017 with the release of its Grillo and Nero d’Avola mono-varietals. These are the first of Planeta’s grapes, which have been cultivated for centuries and are harvested with a deep respect for the surrounding environment. The original La Segreta labels reflected Ulmo’s history with a depiction of a local map, but today, the design has been modernized, capturing the essence of Sicilian nature and history, both inside the bottle and out.

Planeta is available nationally through Palm Bay International, www.palmbay.com.
