Orange is the New Napa: The Vice Responds to Market Demand with Passion and Innovation
St. Helena, CA –Thursday, April 18 – The Vice Wines is thrilled to announce the expansion of its Orange Wine Portfolio with the release of five new orange wines. The portfolio expansion, which includes three brand-new orange wine varietals, marks a significant milestone for The Vice as a Napa Valley wine producer that continuously trailblazes new paths that break from tradition.
Since the 700-case production release of The Vice Orange of Semillon 2020, which was among the very first orange wines to come out of the appellation, the initial increase in orange demand spurred the creation of both Orange of Viognier and The Vice Orange of Gewurztraminer 2021, both of which quickly sold out. With the growth in market demand experienced by The Vice and the global orange wine market on track to increase significantly, the new Five Orange Wine Portfolio marks a case production increase of nearly 400% and reflects The Vice’s passion for offering variety and wines that are as unique and conversation-starting as they are delicious and eye-catching.
The Vice Five Orange Wine Portfolio includes:
- Orange of Gewurztraminer “Brooklynites 5.0”, Los Carneros, 2022
Nicknamed “Brooklynites 5.0” to honor its initial popularity in the Brooklyn market, The Orange of Gewürztraminer 2022 was skin fermented in stainless steel tanks under controlled cold temperature with fermentation stopped before it was fully complete to leave a slight residual sugar in the wine, making it perhaps the most “crushable” orange wine ever made. The wine is flamboyant with aromas of roses and lychee, so much so that it is nearly impossible not to put your lips on the rim of the glass and let your tongue twist for a few. 13.7% Alc. SRP: $35.00.
- Orange of Viognier, “Pickleball”, Oak Knoll District, 2022
The Orange of Viognier, nicknamed “Pickle Ball” as a nod to the growing trend of the sports likening to the growing trend of Orange Wine, was skin fermented in neutral French oak barrels, racked once and then transferred back in oak barrels for 14 months of aging. Bottled unfiltered and un-fined with no sulfites added, this Orange wine exudes settled aromas and flavors of peach, apricot, and almonds. 13.7% Alc. SRP: $38.00.
- Orange of Sauvignon Blanc, “Sierra”, 2023, Los Carneros, 2023
The Orange of Sauvignon Blanc “Sierra” was skin fermented to complete dryness in concrete eggs and was bottled immediately as is. Fans of the varietal have a little surprise waiting for them… Full body with a bit of funk that hits the palate like a tropical storm and leaves behind a zingy after-taste that is so true to the varietal. 13.4% Alc. SRP: $36.00
- Orange of Albarino, “Sevilla”, California, 2023
The Orange of Albariño “Sevilla” was skin fermented in its harvest macro-bins, full cluster, and was gently stomped daily until there was no residual sugar left in the wine. It was then racked into a stainless steel tank barrels and bottled as is without filtration or sulfites addition. Currently sporting nectarine, candied ginger, and honeydew expect a floral character to shine through with a little age if it’s not gone before the end of summer. SRP: $38.00
- Orange of Chardonnay, “Las Amigas”, Los Carneros, 2023
The Orange of Chardonnay “Las Amigas” was skin fermented in French oak barrels and purposely “forgotten” until bottling. This Orange wine was set in its skins for 4 months and was never racked before bottling, and was bottled without any addition of sulfites. This Orange is doomed to divide and conquer— leaving some very much in love with the style and others with a “nutty” taste in their mouths. Double IPA and sour beer fans please beware, we made so little of this wine for it not to become your nouveau vice. 12.8% Alc. SRP: $65.00
