Journeying Through Poetry and Terroir: The Unveiling of Alìe 2023
April 10th – Celebrating a decade of excellence, 2023 marks a significant milestone for Alìe as it commemorates its 10th vintage. From its inaugural release in 2014, Alìe has been a reason for celebration, and with the latest release, Marchesi Frescobaldi honors its rosé with a poetic tribute: the Alìade.
The illustrious rosé hails from Tenuta Ammiraglia, nestled along the Maremma coast of Tuscany, blending the international Syrah with the native Vermentino grape. “Stepping onto the Ammiraglia estate, we recognized its immense potential,” explained Marchesi Frescobaldi President Lamberto Frescobaldi. “With its modern yet Mediterranean landscape, bathed in sunlight and refreshed by sea breezes, it was clear that we were in a terroir capable of producing remarkable wines.”
Alìe, alongside the Cru Aurea Gran Rosé, embodies the culmination of a decade-long journey, a testament to Frescobaldi’s commitment to cultivating Toscana Diversity. The wine’s character and distinctive pink hue owe much to its proximity to the sea, just 15 kilometers from the vineyard. The maritime influence ensures even ripening of the Syrah and optimal pigment extraction from the skins, while the Vermentino stabilizes the anthocyanins, allowing them to endure over time.
In homage to a decade of rosé excellence, Marchesi Frescobaldi presents the Alìade, a poetic passage inspired by the nymph Alìe. This enchanting verse captures the essence of the wine’s allure and the maritime spirit that surrounds it.
As for the 2023 vintage, Alìe captivates with its subtle pink hue and complex bouquet, offering notes of citrus, nectarine, and floral undertones. On the palate, crispness and savory nuances intertwine seamlessly, resulting in a wine of exceptional balance and elegance.Crafted with meticulous care, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel fermenters. Months of maceration on the fine lees impart depth and complexity, while bottle aging ensures the wine reaches its full potential upon release.
The 2023 growing year saw ideal conditions, with abundant rainfall in winter followed by warm summer temperatures, culminating in structured wines with expressive aromatics. With each sip of Alìe 2023, one experiences the essence of Tenuta Ammiraglia and the legacy of Marchesi Frescobaldi—a journey marked by innovation, expertise, and a profound respect for the land.
TENUTA AMMIRAGLIA
Tenuta Ammiraglia, which opened its doors in 2011, is the most modern and Mediterranean face of Tuscany. It lies in Magliano, in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, a zone now world-famous for its innate ability to produce wines of extraordinary quality, and for its stunning, uncontaminated natural beauty. The wine cellar, designed by architect Piero Sartogo, is perfectly integrated into its surrounding environment while the vineyards design fanciful geometric shapes on the hillsides as they slope down to the shore of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Plenteous amounts of light combine with the marine breezes to create a particularly favourable environment for high-quality viticulture. In order to further increase the unique productive qualities of the terroir, a pond was created to catch rainwater, which irrigates the vineyards during the driest months. The combination of all these factors gives the wines of Tenuta Ammiraglia their exceptional aromatic range and intensity, qualities unique in the Maremma.
