Tuscan Winery Vecchie Terre di Montefili Selected for the Second Time Among the Wineries of Operawine 2024

Ascending to the prestigious stage, the Chianti Classico “Vigna Vecchia” Gran Selezione DOCG 2015, 100% Sangiovese, from the Tuscan winery, returns for the second time to the exclusive event scheduled next April 13th

Greve in Chianti 8th of April 2024 – Vecchie Terre di Montefili, a renowned winery nestled in the beating heart of Chianti Classico, proudly announces its second appearance at Opera Wine 2024, the exclusive event to be held in Verona on 13 April 2024, that anticipates the start of Vinitaly.

The prestigious event, the result of the synergy between Veronafiere, Vinitaly and the renowned American magazine Wine Spectator, annually selects 131 Italian wineries as symbols of national wine excellence. Vecchie Terre di Montefili stands out again in this context, confirming its commitment to the production of superior quality wines. During this prestigious occasion the company will bring its own to the stage Chianti Classico “Vigna Vecchia” Gran Selezione DOCG 2015, a wine that embodies the excellence of the Tuscan territory.

Serena Gusmeri, oenologist and director of the company, expresses great satisfaction: “It is a source of great pride that our Vigna Vecchia represents Vecchie Terre di Montefili at Opera Wine 2024. This wine has a particularly special meaning for me, being the first label in my role as oenologist of Vecchie Terre di Montefili. 2015 marked the first harvest for this distinctive wine, the result of the approach of separately vinifying the grapes from a single Sangiovese vineyard of just 0.5 hectares planted in 1981. Intuition and subsequent soil analysis revealed the unique convergence of two different types of soil – the Pescina formation and the Sillano formation – which give the wine exceptional characteristics.”

Vigna Vecchia Gran Selezione DOCG 2015, 100% Sangiovese, is the result of a lengthy maturation process: 26 months in 10 hectoliter barrels followed by at least 12 months in the bottle. Vigna Vecchia is characterized by an incomparable bouquet where nuances of ripe blackberries and cherries dominate, embellished with delicate balsamic notes. This wine stands out for its robust structure: a generous backbone that gives it the ability to evolve and refine over time, maturing with elegance and refinement. A wine that proudly knows how to be an emblem and manifesto of the long tradition of artisanal viticulture that has made Vecchie Terre di Montefili a point of reference in the Italian wine scene and which will find a new opportunity for celebration during the exclusive Veronese event.

Vecchie Terre di Montefili:

Vecchie Terre di Montefili is located on the top of the panoramic hill Monte Fili of very ancient origins and from which it takes its name. It covers a vineyard area of 12.5 hectares in the municipality of Greve in Chianti, straddling two Chianti Classico UGA (Additional Geographical Unit): Panzano and Montefioralle. For over 20 years, it has been part of Italy’s first organic district (Panzano).in this place where history, nature and winemaking tradition have always been intertwined, the extraordinary adventure began that united the destiny of three American friends passionate about Italy, Nicola Marzovilla, Frank Bynum and Tom Peck Jr., and that of the expert winemaker Serena Gusmeri. From their passion for the microcosm of Montefili, its panoramas, its vineyards and their respect for nature, excellent products are born, awarded and recognized internationally, which tell of the heart of Chianti Classico and the Tuscan territory. The first Sangiovese vineyard named “Anfiteatro” dates back to 1975, which was followed by further plantings thanks to the new ownership and a careful, innovative and sustainable approach to production by the oenologist and agronomist from Brescia at the head of the company.
