Nuits-Saint-Georges, March 11, 2024 – The 63rd Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Wine Auction, which took place on Sunday March 10 at the Château du Clos de Vougeot, raised a total of €2,281,500, making it the third best auction in the history of the Hospices de Nuits.
Despite being down 36% on last year’s exceptional results (which it should be noted included 10 extra pièces) this result nevertheless shows buyers are very interested in this authentic and generous vintage.
There were record breaking results for two pieces in this year’s auction:
- The “Cuvée des Bienfaiteurs”, or Charity Pièce, attained a new historic record of €68,330 (as against €67,430 in 2023) on behalf of the Clément-Drevon Foundation represented by the actor Éric Laugérias.
- The second edition of the Cuvée Hugues Perdrizet Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes, made from a rigorous selection of the oldest vines on the estate, also fetched the record sum of €60,000 (compared to €40,000 in 2023).
NEW RECORDS IN THE CONTEXT OF A GENERALISED DROP OF PRICES
Traditionally held at the Château du Clos de Vougeot, the 63rd Hospices de Nuits Wine Auction took place this Sunday March 10, under the supervision of auctioneer Hugues Cortot and wine expert Aymeric de Clouet.
The generous 2023 harvest enabled 150 pièces, covering 19 different cuvées representing the diversity and authenticity of each cru, to be put up for auction. A total of €2,281,500 (hammer price) was raised in this 63rd Wine Auction, 36% down on 2023 when a total of 160 pièces – 10 more than this year – were auctioned.
The sale of the 18 red wines raised €2,220,500 (hammer price), which was 36% down on 2023. The only white wine (Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Terres Blanches, cuvée Pierre de Pême) went for €61,000 (hammer price), 38% less than the 62nd edition.
The average hammer price of the red wines, (18 out of the 19 wines proposed), was €15,750, a drop of 29% over 2023.
The wine that attained the highest price in the 63rd Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Wine Auction was a Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Saint-Georges Cuvée Hugues Perdrizet, which went under the hammer for €60,000 compared to €40,000 last year. The second edition of this Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes Cuvée Hugues Perdrizet, made from a strict selection of the oldest vines on the estate as a tribute to the first donor to the Hospices de Nuits estate, proved that there was great interest in this superb wine from the Saint-Georges appellation.
GREAT ACCLAIM FOR THE CHARITY PIÈCE IN SUPPORT OF THE CLÉMENT-DREVON FOUNDATION
This year’s Cuvée des Bienfaiteurs, the charity pièce, a blend of the estate’s nine Nuits-Saint-Georges Premiers Crus sold by subscription, raised a record sum of €68,330 for the Clément-Drevon Foundation. This is a charity supporting medical research in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, that works to improve access to healthcare, and the quality, pertinence and safety of that care.
