Carter Creek Winery Awarded Six Prestigious Medals at 2024 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

Texas Hill Country Award Winner Earns Two Double Gold and Four Gold

OHNSON CITY, Texas – Carter Hospitality Group announces Carter Creek Winery, in the heart of Texas Hill Country, earned six awards at the 2024 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition (SFCWC), which took place during the week of January 15. This competition is the largest in North America and brings attention and respect to the industry worldwide. Now in its 24th year, this year’s competition included meticulous judging by over 50 professionals handpicked from the winemaking, education, restaurant/hospitality and wine media industries. The judges had the task of assessing more than 5,000 wines from nearly 1,000 wineries located in various wine regions throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Carter Creek’s Texas vineyards produce varietals especially unique due to the combination of an extremely warm growing season and an early harvest delivering softer, earth-driven wines. The 2024 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition Awards for Carter Creek Winery include Double Gold winners 2022 Carter Creek Plateau Red and 2022 Carter Creek Plateau White. Gold medal winners are NV Carter Creek Brut, NV Carter Creek Group Therapy, NV Carter Creek Tempranillo Rosé Sparkling Wine and 2018 Carter Creek Viognier Roussanne. The appellation for all six winners is Texas High Plains.

“Winning six coveted distinctions for Carter Creek Winery at SFCWC is an important recognition for Jon McPherson, our veteran winemaker, and the winery’s dedicated team of Texas vintners,” said Jeff Carter, president of family-owned Carter Hospitality. “We are especially proud of Carter Creek’s Plateau Red which continues to garner recognition for each vintage.”

Gold and above winning wines from the 2024 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition Awards will be recognized in the newspaper’s special section publication and be recognized as winners at the 2024 public tasting being held on February 17 at the Festival Pavilion of Fort Mason Center in San Francisco.

Proceeds from the SFCWC support wine and food non-profit organizations and wine studies and culinary arts at various educational institutions.

Producing award-winning wines since 2016, Carter Creek Winery is a sister winery to Temecula, California’s award-winning South Coast Winery Resort & Spa and Carter Estate Winery and Resort. Carter Creek Winery Resort & Spa features 78 luxury villas, a spa, tasting rooms, restaurant, its own onsite microbrewery creating small batch craft beers and an outdoor event center, which features top musical acts.
