Marsala, 07 November 2023 – From the careful selection of vineyards dedicated to the cultivation of Perricone, comes Capoarso, a pure wine that recalls ancient oenological traditions.
Perricone is an ancient indigenous grape variety of western Sicily, the only red grape one native to the Trapani area, where it is grown. It is a wild vine characterised by low yields, difficult to cultivate and vinify.
Only thanks to the skilful work of agronomists and oenologists is it possible to take it from the vineyard to the glass. And it is precisely at this stage that Capoarso reveals its extraordinary rough and generous personality, unique compared to red grape varieties, which repays the efforts made and gives great emotions.
Although Perricone was widespread in western Sicily in the 19th century, it was gradually abandoned as it was difficult to grow, and replaced by other varieties. However, Pellegrino, which aims to be the clearest representation of this area, has decided to focus on this indigenous variety, creating a profoundly identifying and characterising red wine: Capoarso.
The name and label of the wine are inspired by the territory where it originates, a particularly arid and dry area characterised by very high temperatures and a torrid climate in summer, with little rain throughout the year. These extreme conditions contribute to the wine’s character and intensity.
The grapes are harvested from the second ten days of September. After malolactic fermentation, vinification involves ageing in both steel tanks and barriques.
Bright red in colour, Capoarso combines violet aromas with sweet balsamic notes on the nose. The palate shows great intensity, with a lively tannic texture well balanced by freshness and delicate spicy hints. Suggestions for enhancing the tasting experience include pairing it with a board of local cured meats and cheeses or with a grilled meat dish.
Capoarso will be available on the market from November 2023.
