Il Palazzone Estate Expands with Acquisition of Albatreti Vineyards

October 9th – Montalcino, Italy: Il Palazzone, the boutique Brunello di Montalcino producer, is proud to announce the acquisition of the vineyards of Società Albatreti , on a site adjacent to Il Palazzone’s existing vineyards.  The newly acquired parcel, an historic jewel of Montalcino, is known for spectacular galestro soil and south westerly exposure, further enhancing the terroir and elevation profile of Il Palazzone.

Albatreti is a Montalcino property embodying much heritage, having been on the map since the area was surveyed in modern times. It has been under the careful stewardship of the Bizarri family for three generations. The 5 hectares of vines were all painstakingly dug and planted when the grandchildren took over the property, yielding the first Rosso di Montalcino in 2008 and the first Brunello di Montalcino in 2009. The site includes Brunello, Rosso and Sant Antimo grapes and expands Il Palazzone’s vine footprint in Montalcino to approximately 10.5 hectares.

In addition to the vineyards, the acquisition includes 25 hectares of woods and a large stand olive trees, enabling the expansion of Il Palazzone’s olive oil production in the region.

Kirsten Kern, owner of Il Palazzone comments:

“We are incredibly pleased to announce the acquisition of the vineyards of Albatreti. The expansion offers a unique opportunity to preserve a very special Montalcino vineyard, improve production and maximize long term potential for both properties.”

Kern continues: “We are grateful to the Bizarri family and Gaetano Salvioni for their excellent stewardship over the years and the meticulous care of the land and vines. We are confident this rare opportunity to combine neighbouring properties and blend from different soils, elevations and exposure will further our goal of producing the finest Brunello of incomparable character and quality.”
