Paso Robles Wine Country’s Inn Paradiso Receives Michelin Guide Mention

September 12th – Paso Robles, CA – Inn Paradiso, located in Paso Robles wine country, along California’s Central Coast, has received the coveted Hotel-mention in the Michelin Guide. The sole hotel recommended in the region, Inn Paradiso was established in 2010, and has about it a mid-century modern sensibility punctuated by Native American, Hispanic, and Japanese influences. It flourishes under the watchful aesthetic eye of owner Steve Werndorf, a graphic artist with a long career designing movie posters. He is an ardent collector of art, books, and vinyl. The intimate inn has become a nexus for discerning travelers, many of them artists and musicians, traveling throughout California and the Pacific Northwest.

Built in the early 1970’s, Inn Paradiso is constructed of local natural materials, with custom ironwork throughout the interior and exterior of the handsomely appointed inn. Encircled by natural environs that include ancient live oaks, rare fruit trees, and stone walkways lined with flowering plants, succulents and manicured hedgerows, Inn Paradiso blends in well with the natural world that surrounds it, resulting in a peaceful and grounding hilltop hideaway. Central Coast-based winemaker, Tyler Russell says, “Spending time at Inn Paradiso is like hanging out in an art exhibit while experiencing a high level of comfort. Such a distinct and fascinating place; it’s a true original.” Guests can enjoy occasional record-listening parties, hosted by Werndorf and featuring his extensive vinyl collection of Japanese jazz and other genres.

Reclaimed redwood beams comprise much of the lodge and suites. The suites are referred to by names of creatives who have provided inspiration, including the Antoni Gaudi Tri-Level Loft Suite and the Leonora Carrington Suite. The Main Lodge’s three well-appointed rooms include the Carlo Mollino, Maria Sabina and Octavio Paz King suites. River rock pathways and stonework weave the interior and exterior experiences together. A thick-roped hammock provides guests with a place to slumber on the upstairs veranda, as does the L’ Orangerie, a lounge dedicated to repose, complete with full-grown fruiting orange trees, a chess set, and ample seating.

Werndorf, who divides his time between San Francisco, Mexico, and Paso Robles, says, “I see the Inn as a constantly evolving place that reflects the seasons and the people that inhabit it any given time. Our guests are often creative people from the worlds of film, fashion, music, architecture, and design. They contribute to the vibe. They often come to us with limited knowledge of the area, other than that we have wonderful wine. It’s a pleasure to get to know them, welcome them to Paso Robles, and introduce them to our great restaurants and wineries.  The only challenge is dividing their time between relaxing at Inn Paradiso and exploring this beautiful region!”

A unique swimming pool, fragrant pathways, and numerous outdoor seating areas are available to guests seeking to stretch their legs, get some exercise, or enjoy a few moments of solitude. The Inn has six rooms.
