8/26/2023 – Saint Helena, CA – Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) is honored to receive a 2023 Power of Associations Gold Award for its philanthropy and leadership role in the Napa Valley community. The award was received for NVV’s grantmaking and collaboration with SHINE Napa Valley in the expansion of Wellness Centers and youth mental health services in Napa County.
The Power of Community Support and Engagement Award recognizes associations that marshal expertise and resources in response to societal problems, seek solutions for underserved populations and enhance public awareness of health and safety issues.
The focus on mental health is the latest in NVV’s longstanding commitment to its community. Since 1981, NVV has invested more than $225 million in the areas of healthcare and opportunity for youth advancement.
Earlier this year, a rigorous third-party assessment of community needs was conducted by NVV, and mental health struggles were identified as one of the most pressing needs in the Napa Valley community.
The SHINE program that NVV helped foster and fund provides mental health services to students and parents throughout Napa County. With NVV’s support, SHINE opened wellness centers on two high school campuses in the spring of 2023. These safe spaces for youth are believed to be a crucial way to identify and connect youth with providers.
The wellness centers are an inviting oasis and reprieve from the daily stresses youth face such as anxiety, depression and social pressures. Services provided at the wellness centers include individual and group counseling, substance abuse prevention and more.
