In Honor of Pennsylvania Wine Month, Penns Woods Winery Is Opening Up Their Cellars for the Very First Time and Pulling Out the Most Exceptional Vintages from 2002-2016 for a Tasting Experience Like Never Before!
August 21st – Chadds Ford, PA – Family owned and operated, Penns Woods Winery was founded by Italian immigrant and USMC veteran Gino Razzi. The winery has been cultivating and making wine from 100% Pennsylvania grown grapes for the past twenty-two years. After spending decades as a wine importer, Razzi began making wine in Abruzzo in the mid 90s. With a series of successful & highly rated commercial releases under his belt, he turned his attention to the promising soils in his adopted home of Pennsylvania, finding the perfect site in Chadds Ford with a charming 1800s farmhouse & established old vines, planted by the previous owners in the late 1970s & early 1980s. Their scenic home vineyard, located in the beautiful Brandywine Valley, sits on The First State National Historical Park, a 1,110 acres area of protected rolling hills, agricultural land and vital watersheds that straddles the Pennsylvania-Delaware border. Over the years, Penns Woods has expanded from 8 acres at their original vineyard in Chadds Ford to over 35 acres in total including two additional sites located in Chester County.
Much has changed over the past two decades, but the one thing that hasn’t is their mission: to cultivate the very best grapes to produce premium, Old World style wines that highlight the depth & flavors unique to the region. Through a carefully maintained library program, Penns Woods has found their Bordeaux varietals possess the structure and energy to last through the years. These special wines have developed into the most elegant & impressive portfolio of aged wines in the region. On Friday, October 6th, for the very first time, Penns Woods Winery is opening their cellars to the public for a PA Wine Month Vault Tasting Experience– the likes of which has rarely, if ever, been seen on the East Coast, much less Pennsylvania.
Guests are invited to taste through the years, hear the stories behind the wines and experience the elegance of Penns Woods’ most treasured reds with a special line up of wines from their inaugural 2002 vintage through 2016. Tickets are $45 and include a tasting lineup of cellared wines that include, but are not limited to: Ameritage Reserve 2002, 2004 & 2005, Cabernet Franc Reserve 2010 & 2012, Merlot Reserve 2005, 2013 & 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2009, 2013 & 2015 – and more! A select amount of these special wines will also be available to purchase as well. This event runs 6:00-8:00pm with Wine Club and Invitation-Only early access starting at 5:00pm. The Penns Woods Tasting Room is open daily for wine tastings with special pairing events and workshops throughout the year.
