Bonterra Organic Estates Expands into Wine Industry’s Wellness Segment, Introduces Low Calorie Offering from Fetzer

Lo and Behold Sauvignon Blanc is 8% ABV and has just 80 calories per glass

HOPLAND, CA, August 3rd, 2023 – Bonterra Organic Estates is proud to announce the launch of its latest wine offering under its well-known Fetzer label: Lo and Behold, a Sauvignon Blanc that boasts both low calorie and low alcohol content. Lo and Behold meets growing consumer demand for alcoholic beverages that complement a balanced lifestyle.

The low alcohol/low calorie still wine category continues to grow in popularity among consumers. According to market research firm IRI Worldwide, the low/no category reached $1.4 billion in sales in 2022. And, in Nielsen IQ polls conducted in 2021, 50% of consumers agree low-alcohol drinks are a healthy option.

Sauvignon Blanc is also experiencing a surge in consumer demand, with no sign of slowing. Given these two trends, Fetzer Lo and Behold Sauvignon Blanc perfectly aligns with the prevailing consumer preferences.

Featuring a crisp and light profile, the Lo and Behold Sauvignon Blanc has only 80 calories per serving and an alcohol content of 8% by volume. It delights the senses with notes of tropical fruit and citrus. Suggested retail price is $8.99 per 750ml bottle.

“Fetzer’s new Lo and Behold Sauvignon Blanc embraces conscious consumption,” says Rodrigo Maturana, President of Marketing for Bonterra Organic Estates. “With Lo and Behold, we’re excited to offer a product that aligns with a balanced, wellness-oriented lifestyle.”

Fetzer Winemaker Margaret Leonardi explains that Lo and Behold grapes are harvested earlier in the season than is typical for the Sauvignon Blanc grape varietal, when the grapes have less sugar. She further explained, “Lower sugar during the fermentation process produces less alcohol, achieving this lighter style of wine that is still full of flavor and true varietal characteristics.”

Lo and Behold customers care about their own health as well as the health of the planet. As a certified B Corporation, Fetzer Vineyards prioritizes people and planet over profit. In 2015, Fetzer became the first recipient of the California Green Medal Leader award, which recognized the winery’s long-standing sustainability commitments and leadership. In 2017, Fetzer was the only winery in the world to be commended at COP23 by the United Nations Climate Change secretariat, which recognized the winery’s work toward a climate positive future with a Lighthouse “Momentum for Change” Award. And in 2020, the company went above and beyond climate-neutral goals and committed to achieving climate-positive operations by 2030.

Fetzer’s dedication to both people and the planet is evident in every bottle of Lo and Behold, offering remarkable value without compromising on quality.
