May 31st – JOHNSON CITY, Texas – Carter Creek Winery, located in the heart of Texas Hill Country and owned by the Carter Family, announces that two of its rosés – Sparkling Rosé, Tempranillo, Lahey Vineyards, Texas High Plains, Non-Vintage and Rosé, Tempranillo, Lahey Vineyards, Texas High Plains, 2022 – have received Silver Medals from the judges at the prestigious 2023 TEXSOM Awards competition.

The TEXSOM Awards were founded in 2005 with a mission to give Texas sommeliers the opportunity to learn and train others in the wine industry. Today, it has evolved into an international event and network for beverage professionals from all tiers of the industry. The Journal of Wine Economics has praised TEXSOM’s competition for its ability to differentiate quality and offer judging consistency year after year due to its high level of judging proficiencies and global perspective. This year there were 42 judges and 2,356 total entries – choosing wine winners that demonstrated quality and unique character.

“Receiving these medals from such a well-respected industry group of judges is a great honor for our Texas High Plains wines and the team led by veteran master winemaker Jon McPherson,” said Jeff Carter, president of Carter Hospitality, operating company of Carter Creek Winery Resort & Spa. “We are most appreciative of the networking and marketing opportunities that TEXSOM entities provide to wineries and their talented crews.”

When asked about these two Silver Medal Award winners, McPherson described the Sparkling Rosé, Tempranillo, Lahey Vineyards, Texas High Plains, Non-Vintage as being a lavish pink color with the delicate aroma of strawberries, cranberry, pomegranate and citrus peel and with a lushness to the mouthfeel, while balancing the bright acidity. “It is a great warm-weather sipper but is also food-friendly paired with seafood, paella or tapas.” McPherson noted the Rosé, Tempranillo, Lahey Vineyards, Texas High Plains, 2022 is also a beautiful pink hue with delicate strawberry and pomegranate aromas having a polished and refined finish. He recommends enjoying this rosé with grilled meats, Mexican food and barbeque.

Producing award-winning Texas wines since 2016, Carter Creek Winery’s production facilities are in Lubbock, Texas, while the winery is in Johnson City along Old Hwy 290 in Texas Hill Country at Carter Creek Winery Resort & Spa.
