Second Generation of Lang & Reed Napa Valley Launches Own Wine Company, Rockhound Wine, and Releases Magnums of 2022 Hawkbox Rosé

St. Helena, CA, April 4, 2023 – Reed & Megan Skupny, the second generation of acclaimed Lang & Reed Napa Valley, have launched their own winemaking company, Rockhound Wine. With a goal of producing exciting wines of unparalleled quality, unconstrained by preconceived notions or boundaries, they are coming to market with Magnums of 2022 Hawkbox Rosé of Pinot Noir ($85). Sourced from Radian Vineyard in the Santa Rita Hills, this single vineyard Rosé will be offered exclusively in magnums.

The newly released 2022 vintage of Rockhound’s Hawkbox Rosé of Pinot Noir has a pale ruby hue with flecks of gold, reminiscent of the eye of partridge or the “oeil de perdrix” color that the French revere so much in Rosé. Sultry aromas of rosehips, red plum, and cardamom unfurl from the glass. On the palate, the lush texture carries flavors of red delicious apple and fuji persimmon. The finish brings an almost saline character with riverbed minerality, acacia flower and bergamot oil.

Rockhound Wine, an umbrella of which the Hawkbox brand is under, is designed to be malleable; poised to shift based on opportunities and free to add an element of experimentation. Winemaker Reed Skupny has made wine in three continents, currently works alongside highly acclaimed winemaker Russell Bevan, and as a consultant for his father, John Skupny, on Lang & Reed Napa Valley. He and his wife, Megan, created Rockhound to embrace creativity. The duo shepherd wines from vine to bottle with integrity and purpose, letting wine have a sense of self. Releasing Hawkbox Rosé first, there are plans to offer other exciting wines in the future.

Rockhound Wine’s 2022 Hawkbox Rosé is now available at Lang & Reed Napa Valley’s tasting salon, Spring House, in St. Helena, CA. You can also purchase here and learn more here.
