Napa Valley College Hires Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Academic Affairs

February 20th – (NAPA, Calif) – Dr Priscilla Mora, current dean of Student Learning at Moorpark College in Moorpark, Calif., will be the new Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Academic Affairs at Napa Valley College, Superintendent/President Torence Powell, Ed.D., announced today, after the College Board of Trustees approved the hiring at its regular meeting Thursday.  

“Dr. Mora brings a history of progressively responsible leadership in the field of higher education, and particularly in community colleges,” Dr. Powell said. “Her years of experience as tenured faculty member, Academic Senate President and Dean, coupled with her knowledge of institutional planning and governance, will be of tremendous asset to NVC.” 

Dr. Mora has served in higher education for more than 30 years, 22 of those within the California Community College system. Prior to her current position, she was Dean of Humanities, Social Sciences, Fine and Performing Arts, and English at Santa Barbara City College, having also served as Academic Senate president, department lead and ESL (English as a Second Language) instructor during her 13 years there. At Santa Barbara, she also was project director of a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Title V grant. The grants are awarded to expand opportunities for and increase the enrollment of Hispanic students.  

Mora has a master’s degree in English from Cal Poly State University and a doctorate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from New York University.  

“I am overjoyed to be joining Napa Valley College to support the excellent programs that the college offers its students,” Mora said “I look forward to working with members of the college to meet college goals and build a stronger NVC that will serve our students and our community for many years into the future.” 

As Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Mora will oversee the areas of Arts and Sciences, Career Education and Academic Pathways, and Health and Safety programs. She will begin her new duties at NVC on March 13, 2023.
