TerraVox Norton Wins Best of Class Award at Prestigious SF Chronicle Wine Competition for third time in four years

February 8th – Kansas City, MO)—Kansas City’s TerraVox Winery was awarded a Best of Class Award at the prestigious 2023 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. The competition, which saw more than 5,500 wines submitted, named the TerraVox 2021 Lot 3 Norton the Best of Class in the Red Natives and Hybrid category. Only 3% of all wines entered into the competition are given a Best of Class designation.

The 2021 TerraVox Lot 3 Norton was produced from grapes grown in the winery’s estate vineyards located outside Kanas City, Missouri. This marks the third time in four years that TerraVox has received the Best of Class Award for its Norton, the official state grape of Missouri. In addition to the Best of Class Award for the 2021 Norton, the TerraVox 2021 Chateauneuf du Platte Red Blend was awarded a Gold Medal.

The 2021 TerraVox Vineyard Norton is scheduled for public release in the Spring.

“We are thrilled with this award particularly since this competition is the largest in the country,” said TerraVox winemaker Jean-Louis Horvilleur. “We also view this as a win for the state of Missouri which has demonstrated over and over that its Norton wines can compete with the best wines made anywhere in America.”

CHAMPIONING WINES PRODUCED FROM HEIRLOOM NORTH AMERICAN GRAPES

TerraVox Winery was founded in 1996 by Jerry Eisterhld, a Missouri native. The winery’s mission is to resurrect and champion wines made from heirloom grapes native to North America. More than 50 different types of grapes are cultivated at TerraVox Winery.

The Norton variety is one of more than 50 native North American grapes grown in the TerraVox vineyards. Norton was first identified by Dr. Daniel Norton in Virginia in the early 19th century. Before Prohibition, Norton was considered one of America’s premier wine grapes winning acclaim both in the United States and internationally.

Consumers and wine lovers are welcome to visit TerraVox and taste through their lineup of bottlings at its tasting room that overlooks the 15-acre vineyard. TerraVox wines are also available for sampling and purchase at Green Dirt Farms Creamery in Weston. For more information see https://terravox.wine/visit-us.
