Consumer Wine Events and Trade Tastings in Four Cities Will Feature The AVA’s Top Pinot Noirs

MONTEREY, Calif. (February 7, 2023)—Santa Lucia Highlands Wine Artisans has announced dates for its new road show, Mighty Cool Pinot. Spotlighting this premier winegrowing region’s top pinot noir growers and producers with a ticketed consumer wine tasting, as well as additional events for wine industry professionals, the tour will kick off in Denver and carry on to San Diego, Los Angeles, and Phoenix throughout 2023.

Mighty Cool Pinot Tour Schedule:

  • Wednesday, April 27, 2023 – Denver, CO
  • Wednesday, June 7, 2023 – San Diego, CA
  • Thursday, June 15, 2023 – Los Angeles, CA
  • Thursday, November 9, 2023 – Phoenix, AZ

The event format will be a walkaround-style wine tasting featuring acclaimed producers such as Bernardus, Bruliam, Hahn Family Wines, Morgan Winery, Pisoni Family Vineyards, ROAR, Rombauer, Wrath, and more — a dozen wineries in total, pouring samples of more than 50 different wines. As the region’s signature grape, pinot noir will be the focus and highlight of the event; additional wines will also be available for tasting. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the winemakers or owners and glean their unique insights into the wines and the region. A generous array of hors d’oeuvres will be offered, carefully selected to complement the wines.

“Wine lovers fall in love with the distinctly rich, lush, and vibrant pinot noir from the Santa Lucia Highlands because of its delicious versatility,” says Steve McIntyre, Proprietor of McIntyre Vineyards. “We’re excited for people to meet the generational family farmers and renowned winemakers from our small but mighty winegrowing region.”

The tour name ‘Mighty Cool Pinot’ references the Santa Lucia Highlands’ unique climate, defined by the cooling marine influence from Monterey Bay, afternoon winds, high elevation, and a well-defined alluvial bench. These growing conditions mean pinot noir grapes can fully ripen and achieve optimal flavors without losing the acidity that provides balance and verve. The result is wines that many perceive as the best pinot noir in the United States.
