Iconic Producer Showcases the Newly Established AVA with a Distinctive Regional Expression of Pinot Noir

Sebastopol, Calif., February 7, 2023- Legendary California producer Paul Hobbs is pleased to introduce a new pinot noir from the West Sonoma Coast AVA. The 2021 Paul Hobbs Pinot Noir, West Sonoma Coast (SRP $80), is a superb expression of the region’s cool, maritime climate and distinctive terroir that yields wines beloved for their vibrant acidity, firm structure, and pure fruit flavors. The wine showcases the unique character of the newly established West Sonoma Coast AVA and is the latest addition to Paul Hobbs Winery’s portfolio of renowned vineyard designate and appellation tier wines.

“The West Sonoma Coast is a sweet spot within the larger Sonoma Coast AVA producing exceptional cool-climate wines,” said Winemaker and Founder Paul Hobbs. “There is an energy and brightness of fruit grown closer to the ocean. These expressive pinot noirs planted on Goldridge soils showcase wild mountain berry nuances and offer lifted acidity indicative of this unique region.”

As one of California’s most exciting new AVAs, the West Sonoma Coast is home to some of the state’s finest expressions of chardonnay and pinot noir. The vineyards are planted on mountainous terrain, ranging from 400 to 1,200 feet in elevation. Proximity to the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean allows the grapes to ripen slowly developing the desired tension, structure, and precision of fruit that Hobbs seeks in his wines.

The new West Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir joins Paul Hobbs Winery’s appellation tier of wines, which includes chardonnay and pinot noir from the Russian River Valley, and a cabernet sauvignon from Coombsville in the Napa Valley. This wine will be made available to DTC, national, and export markets.

Pioneering winemaker Paul Hobbs established Paul Hobbs Winery in Sebastopol, Calif. in 1991. Guided by his vision and dedication to showcasing terroir, the winery is continuously refining the art of winemaking utilizing minimal intervention practices and meticulous vineyard management. Today, Hobbs crafts some of Napa Valley’s highly sought-after cabernet sauvignons, in addition to world-class pinot noir and chardonnay from cool-climate, coastal influenced sites in Sonoma County.
