February 1st – Sail Away Wine’s Sommelier Showdown 2023 has now entered its second round of competition and the list of the top 32 contestants has been revealed! This event, hosted by Sail Away Wine, a self-serve wine bar in North Kansas City, Missouri, brings together wine enthusiasts from across the KC region to raise money for Hope House, a local domestic violence shelter. Participants will compete for the title of Kansas City’s Sage of Wine 2023.
Participants entered the contest for $15 with all entry fees donated to Hope House. Competitors did a blind taste test of one glass of wine and then had three minutes to fill out a questionnaire about the wine selection. No professional wine experience was needed to participate.
The first round of the competition began on January 2 and closed on January 29. The contestant pool has now been narrowed down to the top 32 competitors and will continue to shrink until the remaining four contestants compete in person on March 1 for a chance to win a $1,000 cash prize.
