January 30th – RICHLAND, WA—The Alliance of Women in Washington Wine is proud to announce the “First Ladies of Washington Wine” luncheon event to be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center in Prosser, WA.

This very special luncheon and panel discussion will celebrate the early women pioneers of the Washington wine industry. Speakers will share firsthand how their hard work, determination, and belief in their talents shaped a now internationally recognized and respected wine region.

“As more and more women join the wine industry here in Washington, we want to celebrate and honor the earlier generation of women who forged the path,” says Luanne Holden-Boushey, co-chair of the event and owner of Boushey Vineyards. “These women worked incredibly hard under tough conditions, and their stories must be heard and preserved.”

Speakers will be:

  • Kay Simon, Enology
  • Dr. Sara Spayd, Plant Science
  • Lila Gault, Marketing
  • Mimi Nye, Viticulture/Vineyard Manager
  • Cheryl Barber Jones, Enology
  • Linda Mercer, Viticulture/Marketing/Stories
  • Luanne Holden-Boushey, Viticulture/History/Stories
  • Lane Hoss, Moderator

There are only 100 seats available for this event. Tickets include a BBQ salmon lunch hosted by sponsor Anthony’s Restaurants, wine donated and poured by women winemakers from across the state, and the opportunity to participate in a silent auction.

Funds raised will benefit the recently established Alliance of Women in Washington Wine Scholarship program that was developed in partnership with the Washington Wine Industry Foundation. A yearly $5,000 scholarship is awarded to a female or female-identifying student enrolled in a viticulture or enology degree program in Washington state.

“The Alliance is grateful for all the support we have received since the organization was founded just two years ago,” says Tiffany Britton, Alliance president and CEO/winemaker at Brainstorm Cellars. “We are dedicated to advancing and encouraging women who want to build a career in Washington wine. We have big plans for this industry and our future.”
