Scott Laboratories is proud to become a Certified B Corporation™ as it enters its 90th year of business. As North America’s leading wine industry supplier, becoming a Certified B Corporation (B Corp™) affirms Scott Laboratories’ dedication to using business as a force for good™. The B in B Corp stands for Benefit for all, meaning the Scott Laboratories business must positively impact all stakeholders including employees, communities, customers, and the planet.

Scott Laboratories was founded by Robert Scott, grandfather of Zachary Scott, current Director of Scott Labs. When asked about Scott Labs’ B Corp journey, Mr. Scott recounted:

A few years ago, I discovered a memo from my grandfather drafted in the early ‘70s. This memo detailed our company’s purpose, goals, and our responsibility to our employees, customers, vendors, shareholders, and community. It’s a beautiful document and the words speak to his conviction that profit is only one measure of success and the impact we make on others goes far beyond financial return.

The memo sat framed on my desk when I began learning about B Corp Certification. I came to realize that the principles of B Corp were aligned with the beliefs our company already held and practiced. I believe that B Corp Certification not only validates what we do, it provides a framework to go further. The best way to honor our legacy is to challenge ourselves to do more.

The B Corp framework expands the ways in which a company must evaluate itself. Beyond standard business evaluations of inputs vs. waste and quality vs. efficiency, B Corp Certification forces looking beyond the numbers to reveal the broader impact of business decisions.

For us, the B Corp Certification helps us quantify our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, helps us define value for our sustainability projects, and emphasizes the importance of our community support efforts. In short, B Corp Certification helps us continue our progress toward being a better company.

Scott Laboratories’ vision is to provide the best customer experience to the specialty beverage community, and our mission is to advance the long-term success of that community by providing best-in-class products and services. Our values are education, honesty, and doing the right thing. As a newly minted B Corp, these values have renewed meaning for us:

  • Education: as a B Corp, we will educate when we can provide value and we will be educated when our practices need revision or improvement.
  • Honesty: we are founded on transparency which builds credibility, trust, and value.
  • Doing the right thing: as a B Corp, we continue to consider all stakeholders and make decisions that will create a positive impact for all.

Scott Labs is building a workplace that values, invites, supports, celebrates, and embraces our differences. We believe that the measurement of our success includes our impact on both people and planet.

Whether it’s your first year or your ninth decade doing business with us – you have a friend at Scott Labs.
