Lula Cellars Announces Retirement of Dan Reed

Tasting Room Manager Steps Down After Twelve Years at the Anderson Valley Winery

ANDERSON VALLEY, CA – (November 29, 2022) – Dan Reed, well-known in the wine industry for his quick wit and ability to impress even the staunchest oenophiles, has announced he will be stepping down as Tasting Room manager at the much-lauded boutique Anderson Valley winery Lula Cellars, in order to start the next chapter of his life – retirement.  His last day at Lula will be November 30th, 2022.

“Dan made it his point to focus on our visitors first and foremost, and he loved nothing more than to educate and entertain people while pouring wine,” states Ken Avery, Proprietor at Lula Cellars. “Not a day goes by that a guest doesn’t comment on how much they enjoyed their time with Dan. He has a great ability to make people laugh while enlightening them about all things wine.”

Educated as an attorney (The University of California, Hastings College of the Law, Class of 1975), Dan also worked as a golf pro, where he was nominated as one of The Top 100 Golf Teachers in America, before landing at The Wine Shop of Mendocino and launching his career in wine. In 2010, he moved to the Anderson Valley and started working in the Lula Cellars tasting room as its first tasting room associate, when it was located at The Madrones in Philo.

In the fall of 2012, when Lula Cellars purchased their current home on Guntly Road, Dan and his dog at the time, Honey, moved into the on-property house.  It was also then that Dan was promoted to Tasting Room Manager.  Sadly, Honey has since passed over the rainbow bridge and Dan’s constant companion these days is his dog, Kepler.

“I know that Dan will move on to this next phase with gusto and a sense of curiosity and commitment, just as he approaches all things in life,” concluded Avery. “I wish Dan and Kepler nothing but the best as they move on to new adventures”
