The GWC to Import and Distribute Weingut Rings and Weingut Kühling-Guillot in 46 States
Carlsbad, CA, November 22, 2022 – The German Wine Collection (The GWC) is pleased to announce that it will welcome Weingut Rings from Pfalz and Weingut Kühling-Guillot from Rheinhessen to its all-star German wine portfolio. Effective immediately, their wines will be imported and distributed throughout the United States.
“These are two remarkable producers that several of our top winery partners have been telling us to watch for years. It is nice that we can be collaborative with the same common goal to represent German wines at the top level in the United States. You just cannot miss the opportunity to import wines from some of the most famous vineyards in Germany, especially from winemakers such as Carolin Spanier and the Rings brothers,” said Jenna Fields, president of The GWC.
Weingut Rings is a younger winery run by brothers Steffen and Andreas Rings, whose parents focused on orchards and bulk wine in the past. It all changed in 2001 when Steffen returned and made his first wines at the estate. From this point on, the winery has gradually improved quality, and the recognition came in 2015 in the form of acceptance to the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP). Today, Rings focuses on Riesling and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) while working organically, reaching their peak with both wines from the Saumagen vineyard.
Weingut Kühling-Guillot is a renowned estate in the Rheinhessen dating back over 200 years, with its primary holding in the praised, iron-rich Roter Hang (Red Slope). Carolin Guillot, the proprietor of the estate, runs the winery with her winemaker husband, Hans-Oliver Spanier of Weingut Battenfeld-Spanier fame. Hans-Oliver makes the wine at both estates, even though they market them separately. Since 2005, the farming of the Kühling-Guillot vineyards continues to center around biodynamic principles, with the primary focus on producing the best Riesling wines from Grosse Lage (Grand Cru) sites. The winery offers other excellent choices, including Spätburgunder, Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris), Chardonnay, and more.
Since its founding in early 2020, The GWC has amassed an impressive group of wineries to its portfolio, solely dedicated to German wines. Founded by Albert Behler, proprietor of the historic Weingut Karthäuserhof in Mosel’s Ruwer district, and managed by the veteran of German wine import, Jenna Fields, The GWC keeps Germany’s top wine estates under one umbrella, using their proficiency and know-how.
With Rings and Kühling-Guillot joining the portfolio, The GWC will now represent 20 producers. The all-star roster already includes wines from many famous estates, including Eva Fricke, Friedrich Becker, Fritz Müller, Hans Wirsching, Joh. Jos. Prüm, Meyer-Näkel, Mönchhof, Pfeffingen, Raumland (recently recognized as the VDP’s first sparkling-based winery), Rebholz, Reichsrat von Buhl, Reinhold Haart, Salwey, Schäfer Fröhlich, Schnaitmann, Wagner Stempel, and Willems Willems; all of which are eco-friendly, sustainable, biodynamic, and/or organic.
