WASHINGTON, D.C. – October 13th, 2022 – The United Sommeliers Foundation, a 501c(3) charity dedicated to providing emergency financial assistance to wine professionals, has launched their fine wine auction presented Zachys. The auction is open for bidding until October 24th, 2022.
“We are honored to host this auction for a second time since our Foundation’s inception in 2020. I do not have enough words to express my gratitude for the wineries, companies, and individual collectors who are helping us continue our mission to strengthen and support the sommelier community through our emergency grant program. I am looking forward to a successful auction and know these funds will go to support the most vulnerable in our industry.” Says President & Co-Founder Cristie Norman.
Charles Antin, Head of Auction Sales at Zachys, comments, “at Zachys, we have a history of using our platform and reach to fundraise. The USF is an organization near to our hearts, and we’re excited to be a part of it this year—the lots are truly fantastic and show just how the industry can come together to support an important cause.”
This auction features an incredible array of lots from some of the most collected wineries in the world including Harlan, Hundred Acre, Schrader, Vérité and many more. The auction includes numerous large format wines with over 50 lots of cellar-worthy big bottles. There are also several experiential lots that feature tastings at private wineries, NHL tickets, rare books and immediate spots on hard-to-access wine lists from some of the best producers in the world.
All proceeds from this auction will be used to provide emergency financial assistance to sommeliers who have lost their job through no fault of their own such as the recent devastation caused by hurricane Ian.
