The Taste of Texas wine tasting includes four library wines.

Stonewall, Texas – September 29, 2022 – Kuhlman Cellars is excited to announce a special, limited time educational wine tasting to celebrate Texas Wine Month: the Taste of Texas wine tasting. The tasting will be available on Fridays and Saturdays at 11 am beginning on Saturday, October 1st through November 19th and compares Kuhlman Cellars’ wines from four different American Viticultural Areas (AVA) across Texas. The tasting will be held in Kuhlman Cellars’ Winegarden for $35.00 per person, $15.00 for Vina Vita Wine Club Members.

The Taste of Texas wine tasting includes:

  • 2019 Estate Kuhlmanation Red, Texas Hill Country – ($42) Only 140 cases of Kuhlman’s first ever red were produced. The 2019 Estate Kuhlmanation Red is a blend of Carignan, Aglianico and Mourvèdre grown directly at the Estate.  Harvested over multiple days in August, 2019, the wine was fermented and then spent about 20 months in French oak barrels before being bottled in July 2021. With notes of blackberry and blueberry fruit and tobacco with firm tannins supported with good acidity, this wine will pair perfectly with rich cuisine such as filet mignon, brie cheese, and even a meat and cheese lasagne.
  • 2016 EXP, Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country – ($36) One of the very few wines grown in the Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country AVA, the 2016 EXP is a field blend of 9 different grapes grown on the Cobb Family Vineyard. This medium bodied blend has a bouquet of pine and tobacco. The palate shows intense notes of blackberry, persimmon, mocha, and coffee.
  • 2017 Texas Zinfandel, Escondido Valley – ($41) This uncommon varietal for Texas offers a beautiful nose of roasted berries and dried cranberry combined with black tea leaves and a touch of pink peppercorn. The savory characteristics, typical of the Escondido Valley terroir from West Texas, pairs nicely with wild game and Texas barbecues.
  • 2019 Zinfandel, Texas High Plains – ($38) Kuhlman Cellars is proud to produce Zinfandel in Texas, even though they may have to wait another two decades to be able to call it old vines! This high-powered wine is full of bramble fruit with a touch of licorice. In the mouth the tannins are big with dried fig and cedar flavors. The tannins pair well with fatty dishes such as steak, pork butt, and whipped cream mashed potatoes.
  • 2018 Alluvé, Texas High Plains – ($32) This blend of Malbec, Tempranillo, and Grenache is a beautiful ruby color. This Méditerranéan blend is incredible in the mouth with hints of dried apricot and fig, a lingering acidity, and gentle silky tannins. This wine pairs beautifully with lamb gyro or a classical couscous dish.
  • 2020 Alluvé, Texas Hill Country – (unreleased) Guests can enjoy a sneak peek tasting of the unreleased 2020 vintage of Kuhlman Cellars’ most popular red wine.  The 2020 vintage is led by Aglianico, Carignan and Mourvedre and will mark the first time this wine comes from Texas Hill Country fruit.
