After conquering Europe, Doppio Passo Primitivo, the “Original Zin” from Puglia’s iconic Primitivo grapes, is experiencing great traction in market test in Georgia and Colorado, marking the beginning of the US chapter for the brand.

New York, 14 September, 2022 – Rotkäppchen-Mumm – Germany’s market leader in the sparkling Wine, branded Wine and Spirits sector – and Botter Mondodelvino – Italy’s largest private wine group in terms of revenue – are thrilled to announce the 2022 launch of their joint-venture project Doppio Passo Primitivo in the US market, after launching a successful market test in Georgia and Colorado.

The Doppio Passo brand comes with a story of great success in Europe: in only 5 years, from 2016 to 2021, the brand increased sales by 660%, reaching 2.6 million cases per year. The record-breaking growth demonstrates the crucial role that Rotkäppchen-Mumm – whose annual revenue is over 1 billion Euros – has played in creating the Primitivo category in Europe and increasing the excitement surrounding Puglia’s native grape.

The launch of one of the biggest Europe’s Reds in Georgia and Colorado that began this May, has shown very positive responses from retailers in both markets, with ongoing programs planned through the end of the year. This initial success has paved the way for the expansion to additional states in 2023, implementing a long-term growth plan for the brand.

This 100% Primitivo wine – the equivalent varietal of Zinfandel – comes from the lush countryside of the Puglia region in the South of Italy, where the grapes find their perfect habitat. It has been produced from grapes that came from a “double harvest,” a mix of less ripe and more ripe grapes picked at two different times during the harvest. Soft, full and exceptionally full-bodied, with an intriguing bouquet that reveals notes of blackberries and cherries, Doppio Passo pairs perfectly with everyday dishes like pizza, pasta and grilled meats – bringing so much of the Apulian tradition to the table.

“Many drinkers in the US are familiar with the renowned variety Zinfandel. With the launch of Doppio Passo, we want to provide consumers with a new alternative and let them become familiar with Primitivo grapes, discovering one of the most popular grapes in the Puglia region. Our goal is to introduce the Primitivo category to the US market and replicate the success Doppio Passo is having in Europe, where consumers enjoy its versatility and easy-drinking style.” said Steve Economos, CEO and Owner of Eagle Rock Distributing Company.

Doppio Passo primitivo is available at a suggested retail price of $17.99, imported by Park Street Imports and distributed via Eagle Rock Distributing Company.
