September 8th – SALINAS, CA – Scheid Family Wines announced today that its Sunny with a Chance of Flowers (Sunny) wine brand has been named an IMPACT Hot Prospect Brand for 2021. Sunny – an innovative zero sugar, low calorie, low alcohol wine launched in 2020 – marks Scheid’s entry into the growing “Better for You” category. It is the only wine brand in this segment that states zero sugar and certified sustainable on the label.
IMPACT, owned by M. Shanken Communications, Inc., has specific criteria for this prestigious award: U.S. depletions of at least 50,000 cases in 2021, but not over 250,000 cases for domestic wine brands. For brands introduced prior to 2021, they must achieve at least +15% U.S. depletion volume growth in 2021 as well.
A trailblazer in the low alcohol space, Sunny with a Chance of Flowers represents Scheid Family Wines’ recognition of a changing consumer landscape, where wine drinkers want the option of a zero sugar, low alcohol, low calorie wine that still delivers big flavor. This demand is evidenced by recent IRI data that shows Sunny with a Chance of Flowers as the fastest growing domestic “Better for You” brand above $10, based on Sunny’s volume growth.* In addition, IRI data places Sunny as the number one domestic Pinot Noir above $10 in the U.S. in the “Better for You” wine category.*
“We are honored that Sunny with a Chance of Flowers has been named a Hot Prospect Brand by IMPACT,” said Heidi Scheid, Executive Vice President of Scheid Family Wines. “Our goal has always been to have the best tasting wine in the “Better for You” category, allowing consumers to enjoy a low alcohol option of the world’s greatest beverage. Starting with fruit that is sourced from our sustainably certified vineyards in the Monterey appellation, we’re very proud of Sunny’s quality ethos. It’s been exciting to see consumers discover Sunny and be wow’ed, and we will continue to build brand awareness through creative marketing programs, in-store tastings and a strong digital presence.”
Using proprietary alcohol reduction techniques which preserve aroma, flavor and mouthfeel, Sunny with a Chance of Flowers is 9% alcohol by volume and has 85 calories per 5 fl. ounce serving, offering consumers approximately 30% less alcohol and calories than the 13% to 14% ABV of many other wines. Sunny features uplifting and colorful packaging, exuding an attitude of positivity. Sunny launched with a Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir in mid-2020, followed by a Rosé and Cabernet Sauvignon in 2022. Sunny is available throughout the U.S. including at national retailers such as Kroger, Target and Whole Foods.
