Historic 16-acre property was first planted to wine grapes in 1885
Yountville, Napa Valley, Sept. 7, 2022 — Mira Winery, a family owned, 16-acre estate in the heart of the Napa Valley, is releasing the first wines produced from the Mira Estate Vineyard, a historic property that was first planted to wine grapes by Levi George in 1885.
Winemaker Gustavo A. Gonzalez and owner Jim “Bear” Dyke, Jr. co-founded Mira in 2009 as a virtual winery. The Yountville estate property was purchased by the Dyke family in 2016 and Mira’s newly-built winery opened in late 2019. “This is a journey that has been years in the making so it is beyond exciting to see the literal first fruits of our labors,” says Gonzalez. “We knew the property had a winegrowing history but you’re never really sure what the grapes will be like until you make the wine. These vines are young but they are already showing great promise.”
This first release includes three crisp, refreshing white wines and an intriguing red blend:
- 2021 Mira “Ovum Aureum”: Meaning “Golden Egg,” this wine is made from the rare Sauvignon Gris grape and was fermented in the Ovum, an egg-shaped wooden fermenter made by Tonnellerie Taransaud that is the only one in existence in this hemisphere. Only 100 cases were made; SRP $85
- 2021 Mira Franc Blanc: This unusual wine is 100% Cabernet Franc, made as a white wine. 250 cases made, SRP $65
- 2021 Mira White Blend: 56% Sauvignon Blanc, 44% Sauvignon Gris. The label features a cheeky coat of arms with the motto “Earth, People, Wine” in Latin; 250 cases made, SRP $75
- 2019 Mira Estate Red: A beguiling blend of 85% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot. 125 cases made, SRP $75.
The wines will be offered first to Mira’s Society 610 members and any remaining inventory released to the online store after Sept. 14. For information on Society 610 please visit miranapa.com/society610/.
