SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., July 26th, 2022 – Symington Family Estates, producer of some of the finest Ports in the world for five generations, is pleased to introduce Dow’s 2021 Vale do Bomfim DOC Douro White (SRP $15). This new white Douro Valley DOC table wine joins Vale do Bomfim Red as the first line extension since the iconic brand’s table wine commercial launch in 2004. With this release, the brand is  also updating its packaging to celebrate its long history in the Port wine trade.

Dow’s 2021 Vale do Bomfim DOC Douro White is produced at the Symington family’s high elevation Douro Valley vineyards that traditionally supply the renowned Port house, Dow’s. The wine is a blend of indigenous grape varieties including: 45% Malvasia Fina, 25% Rabigato, 10% Viosinho and 10% Arinto and 10% field blend. The grapes are grown at higher altitudes where lower temperatures and cooler nights provide ideal conditions for the even maturation of these white grape varieties. Vinification takes place in stainless steel vats, with minimal contact with oxygen to preserve the aromatic freshness. The 2021 year had a relatively cool growing cycle, which produced lively yet elegant wines.

The updated packaging on both Dow’s 2021 Vale do Bomfim DOC Douro White  and Dow’s 2020 Vale do Bomfim DOC Douro Red celebrates the Symington family’s five generations of winemaking. The new label features large family photos from the 1930’s depicting second generation Symington family members and friends with their automobile, a nod to the family making the same momentous journey from Porto to their estate, Quinta do Bomfim  in the Douro Valley for over a century.

Initially made by the Symingtons to enjoy solely with family and friends, the commercial launch of Dow’s Vale do Bomfim DOC Douro Red (SRP $15) was destined after the wine received repeated complimentary remarks and encouragement. As with the Vale do Bomfim White, Dow’s Vale do Bomfim Red is sourced from the same vineyard in the Douro Valley that makes Dow’s acclaimed Vintage Port, Quinta do Bomfim. The grape variety mix is: 40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Tinta Roriz, 20% Touriga Franca and 10% Tinta Barroca.

2021 Vale do Bomfim DOC Douro White and 2020 Vale do Bomfim DOC Douro Red are distributed nationally and available in major US markets beginning in September.

ABOUT SYMINGTON FAMILY ESTATES

For five generations they have combined their passion for producing premium Ports and wines with a deep commitment to the region’s land and people.
