Lorenza Wine Introduces Picpoul Blanc

After 14 years of making benchmark rosé, Lorenza reveals its next hidden gem, Picpoul Blanc

[Lodi, California] Lorenza, founded by mother-daughter vintners and acknowledged for its cult Californian rosé, unveils its first white wine, a Picpoul Blanc, organically farmed in Lodi.

As one of California’s only dedicated rosé brands, the duo waited many years before adding a new wine to the Lorenza lineup despite requests from their distributors and fans. “When we opened up to the possibility of expanding into other wines, this Picpoul Blanc was a clear yes for many reasons, including the organic farming practices at the Terra Alta Vineyard and the unique opportunity to work with such a rare and exciting variety,” explains Melinda Kearney, Lorenza Co-founder.

Known for its singular focus on intentional, lean and racy Californian rosé made from classic Provençale varieties, Lorenza continues to take influence from the south of France with its Picpoul Blanc. The 2021 debut vintage is a high acid, mineral-forward wine with an electric palate of Meyer lemon and tart green apple.

With a rare 33 acres of Picpoul Blanc grown in California, Lorenza is one of a handful of producers making this beloved wine with a long-European history.

Following the French translation of ‘lip stinger,’ introducing a Picpoul Blanc is a perfect way for Lorenza to expand its offerings of dry, high acid wines.

“I first tried Picpoul de Pinet paired with oysters during a trip to London several years ago and the combination was perfection! Finding my new favorite wine in the states became a treasure hunt. It’s so exciting to share this wonderful wine with our community.” says Michele Ouellet, Lorenza co-founder.

Preferring sandy soils and warmer, coastal climates, Picpoul Blanc is a perfect fit for Clements Hill AVA topography. The grape tends to have a generous yield and holds onto acid despite its later ripening. Lorenza’s 100% Picpoul Blanc sings with its low ABV, unabashed acidity, lemony scent and clear, starlight hue.

Like a squeeze of lemon, Lorenza Picpoul Blanc pairs excellently with oysters, tinned fish, all seafood, and any al fresco occasion.
