Glen Rock, NJ, 6.29.22: Opici Wines & Spirits is pleased to introduce its newest portfolio additions, a selection of six organic Sicilian wines from Baglio di Pianetto, crafted with native varietals.

Founded in 1997 by Count Paolo Marzotto, Baglio di Pianetto is the culmination of a young boy’s dream to discover how wine is made. Now run by the 2nd and 3rd generations of the Marzotto family, the winery provides an immersive hub for guests to experience the wine of the vineyards, beautiful olive groves, delicious food, and true hospitality.

“We are always honored to work with other family-owned wineries who share our values and passion,” said Don Opici, Managing Director of Opici Wines & Spirits. “Through this partnership we’re also able to continue diversifying our portfolio and our reach into Sicily’s incredible history of winemaking.”

Spanning over 160 hectares of vines, Baglio di Pianetto’s two wine estates lie in opposite corners of Sicily and are diametrical opposites in terms of elevation and terroir. Each wine embodies the winery’s philosophy and dedication to their sustainable practices and their limited environmental impact on the planet. The winery is certified sustainable in compliance with EU legislation which includes practices like water conservation, using renewable energy, and reduced carbon emissions. In addition to that, the winery became certified organic in 2016. Through these minimal intervention techniques, each wine expresses the pure nature of the terroirs and the specific qualities of each variety.

“We want to cherish and strengthen our image,” said Francesco Tiralongo, CEO of Baglio di Pianetto. “We are committed to making organically-produced terroir wines which showcase both innovation and elegance.”

Wines to be imported are all classic Sicilian native varietals, including Catarratto, Frappato, Insolia, Grillo, flagship wine Nero D’Avola, and a French-inspired blend, called Ramione. All the wines are made with high-quality, indigenous grapes and will be available nationwide in July 2022.

Baglio di Pianetto

Established in 1997, Baglio di Pianetto was founded by Conte Paolo Marzotto after traveling the world to locate the perfect vineyard location, eventually settling on Sicily. The winery continued to grow and accumulated two properties on the island, Pianetto, 650 meters above sea level in mountainous terrain, and Baroni which is 50 meters above sea level near the southeast coast. Today the winery is still family owned and operated by 2nd and 3rd generation Marzottos and all wines are estate-grown and bottled.
