Two Pioneering Wine Families Continue Family Legacy in the Okanagan

19 May – Pioneers of B.C.’s wine industry, the Stewart family (Quails’ Gate Estate Winery) and the Martiniuk family (Stoneboat Vineyards until 2021), have embarked on a vineyard partnership to continue the legacy of family farming in the Okanagan.

Today, Quails’ Gate Estate Winery has assumed responsibility for the Martiniuks’ 30-acre site located on the Black Sage Bench in Oliver, B.C.

“We are delighted to be working with Julie and Lanny Martiniuk, allowing their legacy of quality and innovation to continue. We are also ensuring family-owned businesses in the Okanagan Valley continue to prosper,” said Tony Stewart, Chief Executive Officer, Quails’ Gate Estate Winery.

Stewart emphasized how honoured Quails’ Gate is to be entrusted with a tract of land that, given its reliable expression of the region’s unique terroir and climate, provides an opportunity to produce Bordeaux-style reds and Syrah which will perfectly complement and enhance Quails’ Gate Estate Winery’s red wine program.

“As we prepare to take a step back from farming, we wanted to ensure the next farmers to care for and operate the land share the same philosophy and we believe the Stewart family will ensure that legacy lives on,” reflected Lanny Martiniuk.

Revitalization of the 30-acre site is in development as Quails’ Gate Estate Winery looks to enhance 40 years of successful farming and grapevine propagation on the property.
