The winery from Lucca is committed to a plot in Maremma in order to increase the production of Loto and to give life to a pure Cabernet Franc, diversifying its lines. Villa Santo Stefano will be assisted by enologist and consultant Attilio Pagli.

Villa Santo Stefano11th May, Lucca – From the green heart of Lucca to the sweet hills of the Tuscan Maremma: Villa Santo Stefano‘s spring opens with a great novelty and an ambitious project, which sees the estate leaving its original territory and committing itself to 11 hectares of vineyards in the territory of Manciano (GR), in the south of the town. A great challenge for Reitzle’s family winery which realizes its dream of producing a pure Cabernet Franc, pursuing with passion its work on great Tuscan wines. The new plot will also delineate the renewed face of the winery: starting from the next harvest it will distinguish its wines between Villa Santo Stefano in Lucchesia and Villa Santo Stefano in Maremma. Two different viticultural areas for two different interpretations of the terroir, but always in the sign of Tuscan character and attention to biodiversity which characterize the work of the winery since its beginning.

To support Villa Santo Stefano in this new path there will be the Tuscan enologist Attilio Pagli as external consultant, who has almost forty years of experience and is a great expert of Maremma’s terroir, as well as working for the first time in the territory of Lucca.

In the vineyard of Manciano, a plot facing west and located on high mineral soils, will be cultivated international grapes such as Cabernet Franc, whose grapes in the next years will give life to a new, great pure red wine. The label, whose name will be soon revealed, will be one of the excellences of the winery and will be produced in a special limited edition. Another part of the vineyard will be instead dedicated to the grapes used for the production of Loto, Villa Santo Stefano’s top wine of which the winery aims to double the production within the next three years, from 15 to 30 thousand bottles.

“This is a moment of big excitement for Villa Santo Stefano – explains Wolfgang Reitzle, German entrepreneur and owner of the winery. The vineyard in Maremma is located in a wonderful place and is giving us the chance to revalue a unique territory rich in biodiversity. It will also be the occasion to challenge ourselves in a totally new terroir, diversifying the image of the winery and continuing to improve, constantly looking for excellence from the vineyard to the glass”.

In the production line of Villa Santo Stefano in Maremma will be included the two main red wines, which will be identified not only for the different denomination but also for the elegant label with a black background in which the logo of the winery in the foreground. Villa Santo Stefano in Lucchesia, together with the other 7 hectares of vineyards cultivated in the province of Lucca, will include Gioia, Sereno, Luna and Volo wines, more and more oriented to a high-quality production and recognizable by the label with the two wings, dedicated to the winged sculptures present in the barrel cellar and in the park.
