Wine Cellar of 2-Star Michelin Restaurant to Go Under the Hammer

The 4,500-bottle cellar of La Grande Maison in Bordeaux, owned by business magnate Bernard Magrez of Château  Pape Clément and led by chef Joël Robuchon, is to be sold at auction on iDealwine.com, closing 28th April.

La Grande Maison, 2 Michelin Stars 

Owned by business magnate Bernard Magrez (of Château Pape Clément, Château Fombrauge, Château La Tour  Carnet, Clos Haut Peyraguey and a host of other properties), La Grande Maison restaurant closed its doors in 2020  with plans to be revamped as a luxury events space. The 4,500-bottle cellar was established by Joël Robuchon and  his successor Pierre Gagnaire, two of France’s best-known chefs. 

Blue-chip Bordeaux and Burgundy 

Bordeaux wines make up a quarter of the catalogue in this auction. As well as wine from Magrez’s properties,  mature vintages of Sauternes feature – Barsac (Château d’Yquem, Doisy-Daëne, Rieussec, Rabaud-Promis, Sigalas Rabaud), top right bank (Angélus, Ausone, Cheval Blanc, Le Pin) left bank names (Lafite-Rothschild, Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Cos d’Estournel, Pontet-Canet), and famous Graves (Haut-Brion, Smith-Haut-Lafitte). With more than  1,400 bottles and representing 28% of the catalogue, the Burgundy bottles featured are synonymous with the most  sought after names on the secondary market: Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, de l’Arlot, Coche-Dury, Méo-Camuzet,  Bonneau du Martray, Dujac, Dugat-Py, Eugénie, Comtes Lafon, Jacques Prieur, Leflaive, Roulot, Dauvissat and Liger Bélair. Beyond the two major regions, top Barolo, Barbaresco, the Rhône and Loire valleys, Champagne, German  Riesling and Hungarian Tokaji all feature.
