Demeine EstatesNapa Valley, CA (April 19, 2022) — Fine Wine Importer Demeine Estates is excited to announce that Barbaresco producer Cà Romé is joining their quickly expanding import portfolio as their first winery partner in Italy. Demeine Estates will be representing their range of Barolo and Barbaresco wines in select markets, meeting a consistently growing interest from consumers in skillfully made Nebbiolo wines of high quality with aging potential. Cà Romé is owned and operated by the Marengo family, today helmed by Giuseppe Marengo along with his siblings Paola and Maria.

Cà Romé is a true family winery, and the Marengo siblings’ expertise and connection are what makes this partnership so special,” said Demeine Estates President Philana Bouvier. “Piedmont is one of the most stunning and unique wine regions in the world, and it’s an honor to represent these wines that are so clearly made with love and understanding for the land and its family history.”

Giuseppe’s father, Romano, founded Cà Romé in 1980 after working in the wine industry for 30 years. The winery was the result of a long-held dream of opening a family winery to produce quality wines with a deep sense of place from the land he knew and loved. The critically acclaimed wines have quickly gained a global reputation for excellence.

“We are thrilled to join Demeine Estates and cement our relationship with Carlton, Philana and their entire team,” said Giuseppe Marengo. “We see our own values reflected in the terroir-driven, principled wineries of their portfolio, and are extremely pleased to have joined this family.”

Cà Romé’s estate vineyards consist of three sites in Barbaresco and two vineyards in Serralunga D’Alba, which were inherited from Giuseppe’s grandmother, Maria di Brün. The Barbaresco vineyards are rich in marl soils that date back to the Tortonian-Messinian period, with a variety of mineral components that translate into the wines. The Serralunga D’Alba properties are also heavy in blue marl and are some of the oldest soils in Barolo.

As winemaker, Giuseppe upholds his father’s use of traditional methods with long fermentations to bring out the fruit’s natural properties. The wines are matured in a mixture of Slavonian oak casks and barriques of varying sizes to emphasize balance in oak, fruit, and intensity. The rich body and firm tannins benefit from long bottle aging and will continue to develop for decades to come.

“I was introduced to Cà Romé many years ago as a young sommelier and have adored them ever since,” said Demeine Estates Managing Partner Carlton McCoy Jr. “With a multi-generational legacy of crafting pure and elegant expressions of Nebbiolo and Barbera, this family embodies everything in an estate that inspires and excites our team. We are thrilled to be able to share these exceptional wines with the country.”

Demeine Estates will be importing the Barolo Rapet DOCG and the Barolo Cerretta DOCG, as well as the Chiaramati, Rio Sordo and Maria di Brün Barbaresco DOCGs, and the Barbera d’Alba La Gameraja DOC to select markets.
