Baghera/Wines Launches Its “Kipling” Sales

Opening the 2022 Auction Season with a Concept of Quarterly Online Sales Designed to Feature the World’s Most Sought-After Wines

Geneva, 22 March 2022 – Now known as the number one destination for lovers of exceptional wines with impeccable provenance, Geneva-based Baghera/wines is launching a new concept of quarterly online sales. Far from the high streets of massive, frenetic wine consumption, Baghera/wines, Europe’s leading wine auction house, is launching “KIPLING” sales. These veritable gems are sure to enliven the periods between two physical auction seasons.

Far more than a simple tribute to Rudyard Kipling, this is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

The common thread and inspiration for Baghera/wines comes in part from the whimsical, fascinating world of Rudyard Kipling, and in particular his novel The Jungle Book. The values underlying Kipling’s world resonate strongly with the core values held by Michael Ganne and Julie Carpentier, the founders of Baghera/wines. The joyful spirit of childhood, boundless creativity, indomitable energy and fearlessness are all references cherished by Baghera/wines and which it combines with a passion that makes anything possible in bringing all its projects to fruition.

Simply put, “Kipling” is the name given to the new concept of quarterly online sales, to be launched by Baghera/wines in April 2022.  Regarded as veritable haute couture collections, the sales will bring together the best of the most exceptional wine collections on the market. One Sunday afternoon per season, Baghera/wines will thus share this selection of treasures with its clients. The sale will be accessible to aficionados online from the comfort of their homes. The auction system, one of the most secure in the world, allows customers to bid safely against each other in real time, without any need for travel.

Julie Carpentier, co-founder of Baghera/wines and head of sales, adds: “Becoming ever more attuned to our clients’ needs, and providing them with the finest bottles on the market has become second nature to us over the years. Kipling sales are a rare showcase featuring a range of highly prized bottles. These are very carefully planned sales, just like our physical auctions, and the expertise we devote to them is as committed as that applied in our daily work! We have conceptualized them in the manner of a journey to the heart of the vineyards, a stroll among friends, a weekend to discover the wonders of forgotten cellars. This is the spirit that drives us as we put them together!”

A BURGEONING DESIRE FOR RENÉ ENGEL WINES

A spectacular inaugural sale heralds a promising future

Baghera/wines is addressing the most ardent Pinot Noir lovers in Burgundy with this inaugural Kipling sale, featuring a selection of highly coveted Domaine René Engel wines from the 1970s to the late 1990s. On offer to the public for the first time, these bottles have been kept in the cellars of a prominent Burgundy collector and had never travelled prior to being transported to the Geneva Free Ports in February 2022.

Collectors’ interest in René Engel wines has grown remarkably over the last three years, and the wines offered in this Kipling sale are among the most sought-after for their rarity on the market.

282 bottles and 24 magnums, divided into 48 lots, cover appellations as exceptional as they are sought-after by connoisseurs of great terroirs:

Bottles of Vosne-Romanée 1978, magnums of Echézeaux 1995, as well as Clos-Vougeot wines made by the famous and equally talented winemaker Philippe Engel between the 1980s and 1990s.

Ensuring the provenance and exceptional quality of the wines it offers for sale, Baghera/wines relies on the skills of its experts, who are among the most experienced in the world. Now, once again, the company has curated a sale with unique and indisputable provenance, enabling its followers to discover the joys of wine in complete peace of mind.
