SONOMA, CA — February 8, 2022 — Sosie Wines, the boutique French inspired winery based in Sonoma, California, is proud to announce a new winemaking team through its partnership with famed winemaker Philippe Melka and his team Atelier Melka. The St. Helena, California based wine consulting company specializes in small production, handcrafted high end wines that are family owned and operated. Sosie Wines was founded in 2015 by Scott MacFiggen and Regina Bustamante; they opened Sosie’s first tasting room off the square in downtown Sonoma, California last year.

Sosie Wines is a low intervention winery, meaning it strives for natural acidity as well as measured ripeness with a focus on letting the fruit speak for itself. In order to achieve this Sosie sources its fruit from coveted vineyards with pronounced cooling influences. Sustainable farming is also an important consideration and most of its fruit is farmed organically. Sosie’s informative back label reflects the owners’ ideal of transparency and shows their preference for native fermentation and avoidance of additives during the winemaking process. Above all, Sosie believes that its customers deserve to know how the wine was made.

Sosie, which means “look alike” in French, describes the Sonoma based winery’s affinity for French varieties and old world wine making. This kinship is compelling with its playful  logo that features the California state flag’s bear and a proud French rooster perched on top of him.

“We are excited about our work with Sosie, whose philosophy fits well with our winemaking style” says Philippe Melka. “Scott and Regina set the direction and we embraced their goals, including continuing to source from cool sites, focusing on minimum intervention and eventually moving production to 100% organically farmed fruit. It is important for us to capture the personality of Sosie, respecting their past as well as the future vision of the brand.”

“When we thought about handing over the winemaking reins, our goal was to find someone who we can trust and who is willing to build on our foundation. Knowing that Philippe is from France and has so much experience in Sonoma and Napa, he is a natural fit,” says Regina Bustamante. “We are very happy with the first harvest and look forward to a fruitful relationship and turning out some special wines,” says Scott MacFiggen. Atelier Melka joined Sosie for the 2021 harvest in preparation for this new partnership.
