Publication Opportunity: Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine – 2022 Editorial Schedule for West Coast Wineries

January 24th – It is time to submit your wines for 2022 reviews to Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine (CGCW), a monthly wine newsletter covering the entire West Coast. This newsletter has reviewed tens of thousands of West Coast wines to date since 1974 during which it was in continuous publication.

CGCW conducts tastings blind, peer-to-peer, with a consistent methodology, and “at the same table.” Reviews are not written based on casual walk-arounds or winery tastings. 

The publication schedule is as follows:

MARCH: Rhone Red (Syrah/Grenache/Petite Sirah/Mourvèdre/Carignane/Cinsault/blends); Rhone White (Viognier/Grenache Blanc/Roussanne/Marsanne/blends) (submittal deadline Feb 5th, please contact if more time is needed)

APRIL: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, red Bordeaux blends (submittal deadline Feb 26th)

MAY: Chardonnay (submittal deadline March 26th)

JUNE: Pinot Noir, Oregon Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris/Grigio (submittal deadline April 30th)

JULY: Zinfandel, Rosè (domestic) (submittal deadline May 28th)

AUGUST: Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon (submittal deadline June 25th)

SEPTEMBER: Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Albariño, Chenin Blanc, Vermentino, Pinot Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, Barbera (submittal deadline July 30th)

OCTOBER: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Grenache, Tempranillo, Sangiovese (submittal deadline August 27th)

NOVEMBER: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay (submittal deadline September 24th)

DECEMBER: Cabernet Sauvignon, Sparkling Wine (including pet-nat), Port-style Dessert Wine (fortified) (submittal deadline October 29th)

There is no fee for participating or specific form to fill out, but we do request the following with your submission: 

  • California Suggested Retail Price (required)
  • Case Production (required)
  • Cepage/blend, if not 100% varietal
  • Final Analysis (pH, TA etc) if available 
  • Two Bottles for each wine submitted 
  • Contact name, email address and phone number if we have questions
