St. Helena, Napa Valley, July 13, 2021—Newton Vineyard is pleased to announce that Andrew Holve has been appointed Head of Winemaking. “We are proud to promote Andrew to this role,” says General Manager Jean-Baptiste Rivail. “This will be his seventh vintage with Newton. He has been a key member of our winemaking team since 2015 and completely understands what our mountain vineyards can express.”

“I’m excited to contribute to the history of one of Napa Valley’s most historic and highly acclaimed wineries,” says Holve. “It’s been incredibly special being at Newton, and having the opportunity to study and explore such distinctive terroirs. We are privileged to work with vineyards from varied elevations of up to 1800 feet, different soil complexes, and a myriad of exposures and aspects.”

In his six years at Newton, Holve has worked with two head winemakers in mastering Newton’s mountain wine philosophy. He holds a master’s degree in viticulture and enology from at University of California-Davis and has worked at several prestigious Sonoma wineries including MacRostie Winery and California icon Ridge Vineyards, as well as internationally at New Zealand’s Church Road Winery and Cloudy Bay.

Born in Sebastopol, CA, Holve brings together his experiences working at vastly different and international wineries with a proudly local sensibility. “I’m Californian, I grew up around these mountains. I want to showcase the distinctiveness of our mountain terroir, which delivers a lively balance of bright freshness and ripe Napa fruit.  Ultimately the environment shapes these wines, and I nurture and allow them time to make a wine that spotlights and stands true to the Napa Valley.”

About Newton Vineyard

Newton Vineyard was founded in 1977 by English businessman Peter Newton, an eclectic innovator with a pioneering spirit and a deep respect for nature. Peter’s ambitious quest was to create wines that embrace contrasts, delivering a classic freshness and precision while inviting the supple ripeness that Napa’s climate offers. Peter left the valley floor to plant new vineyards on Spring Mountain’s steep hillsides, whose volcanic, well-draining soils would deliver a distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon expression. He also explored Carneros, where the influence of the sea would shape a multidimensional Chardonnay. To unlock the terroir’s full potential, Peter turned to a time-honored Burgundian technique: Unfiltered winemaking. Committed to sustainable practices from the beginning, Newton aims to express nature with precision, pursuing a natural, patient approach in the vineyards and winery. Part of the LVMH portfolio since 2001, Newton continues to champion mountain vineyards and their unfiltered, truthful terroir expression.
