Abruzzo’s Largest Winemaking Cooperative Joins the Esteemed Importer’s Global Portfolio of Wines

NEW YORK, NY – June 22, 2021 – Frederick Wildman and Sons is proud to announce its new sales partnership with Codice Citra. Beginning on August 1st, Frederick Wildman will serve as the U.S. importer for the largest winegrowing community in Abruzzo, providing strategic sales and marketing services. Codice Citra also joins Frederick Wildman’s global portfolio as one of the leading wine producers from the esteemed region in Central Italy.

Founded in 1973 when 3,000 small family growers united to form a winery dedicated to quality, Codice Citra has earned a reputation for being one of the most important wineries in Abruzzo—one of the oldest wine regions in the world.

“We are excited about our new partnership with Codice Citra,” said Frederick Wildman President and COO Marc Hirten. “As a cooperative enterprise, Codice Citra combines heritage with innovation, clean energy and sustainable practices. We have a tradition of working with the world’s finest wineries, and we are particularly thrilled to partner with such a dynamic winery that will also add diversification to our portfolio.”

Codice Citra’s sprawling vineyards are situated between the Adriatic Sea and the Majella Mountains, creating an ideal temperature and optimal microclimate conditions for ripening grapes. As part of their agreement, Frederick Wildman will import three of Codice Citra’s signature brands: Citra, Sistina, and Niro di Citra.

Through this strategic sales partnership, Frederick Wildman will build on Codice Citra’s national presence. The broad range of Codice Citra wines includes native Italian grapes such as Montepulciano and Trebbiano, as well as international varietals such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.

“Our wineries unite around a deeply ingrained respect for quality,” said Angelo Baccile, Codice Citra President. “We are honored to be a part of Frederick Wildman’s portfolio, as they share our passion for quality wine.  We know the team at Frederick Wildman will be natural partners and an extension of our winegrowing community.”
