Banfi Names Magrino PR as US Public Relations Agency of Record

Brunello and Super Tuscans Remain a Key Focus Area for Premier Italian Wine Producer

New York, NY (March 8, 2021) – Banfi, a leading Italian wine producer and importer of its family-owned fine wines, announces today that it has named award-winning public relations agency Magrino PR as its agency of record to spearhead media relations and brand strategy for the US market.

Created in 1919 as a New York-based wine importer, today Banfi is premier producer in Tuscany and Piedmont and run by third-generation family proprietor and CEO Cristina Mariani-May. Throughout its history, Banfi has been committed to innovating and growing with the aim of making fine wines available to Americans. The company accomplishes this mission today with its agricultural estate and crown jewel, Castello Banfi in Tuscany.

“Banfi was built by the American dream; my grandfather started the company by wanting to bring a taste of his homeland and heritage to the United States. With passion and a steadfast vision, we returned to our roots to make wine in Italy in 1978,” says Cristina Mariani-May. “This certainly gave us a different perspective than other Italian wine producers, but for us, we’ve considered it an asset and what sets us apart. We’re excited to work alongside Magrino to tell the Banfi story and our commitment to superior quality, wine education, and sustainability.”

Amongst Castello Banfi’s core competencies are the spectacular lineup of Brunellos from a constellation of single vineyards and a range of Montalcino Super Tuscans that represent the ultimate expressions of terroir. The estate has been crucial in elevating the standard of Italian winemaking through its clonal research on Sangiovese and continues to push the boundaries by implementing cutting-edge winemaking techniques and sustainability initiatives. Castello Banfi was the first winery in the world to be awarded international recognition for exceptional environmental, ethical, and social responsibility by the International Standard Organization based in Geneva, Switzerland.

In addition, Castello Banfi is home to the Relais & Chateau Il Borgo Hotel and three restaurants, including the Michelin-starred La Sala dei Grappoli. The Banfi family worked with the legendary Federico Forquet, Italian haute couture fashion designer-turned-premier interior designer to design the interior and gardens of the Il Borgo hotel.

In addition to its outstanding range of Brunellos and Super Tuscans, a selection of Banfi’s focus wines include its San Angelo Pinot Grigio Toscana IGT, as well as Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG and Rosa Regale Sparkling Red made from Brachetto d’Acqui in Piedmont.
