Andrew Perroy Appointed General Manager of the Americas

VivinoSAN FRANCISCO, CA (December 17, 2020) Vivino, the world’s largest online wine marketplace and most downloaded wine app, adds a critical leader to its Americas team amid record growth. Andrew Perroy is the company’s new General Manager for the Americas. He will be based in San Francisco and collaborate with the Americas leadership team to focus on continued growth and profitability. According to Statista, the Americas wine marketplace is valued at nearly $100 billion by industry analysts, with the US and Canada making up the largest share.

“Andrew is the right person for the job at exactly the right time,” said Vivino’s founder, Heini Zachariassen. “We have seen year over year growth of 100%. That is the growth we will build on.” Vivino’s Black Friday to Cyber Monday sales this year were two and a half times the numbers for the same period last year.

Zachariassen credits the growth to a combination of circumstances – with more people spending more time at home – combined with a great strategy and smart technology. “We are seeing a fundamental shift in consumer behavior, and our technology is enabling us to adapt efficiently to that evolving consumer behavior,” he added. “It is a shift in the way people choose, buy, understand, and ultimately enjoy wine.”

“I am thrilled to join this team and particularly at this point in time. Vivino is driving remarkable change in this industry, and I can’t think of a better time to be with an important disruptor,” said Andrew Perroy. “Vivino is about to hit ten million users in the US alone, with a total of 17 million users across the Americas. We’re going to use this momentum in evolving consumer behavior to drive additional growth in the Americas in places like Brazil, where we think the opportunity is ideal based on the organic growth we have already seen there.”

The Americas is the largest regional market for the ten-year-old company. Vivino’s co-founders, Zachariassen and Theis Søndergaard, are bullish on more upside in the coming years. “We are in an ideal place in our development and progression,” offered Zachariassen. “We’re seeing a tectonic shift in consumer behavior and now coupling that with Andrew’s success in driving e-commerce along with his understanding of an early-stage company. He is a great asset to Vivino at the perfect time. We are thrilled to have him on board.”

Perroy’s appointment comes on the heels of placing new leadership in the United Kingdom last month. Like several other key leaders at Vivino, he did a stint at NakedWines.com before Majestic Wines acquired them in 2017.

Vivino was founded in 2010 by Zachariassen and Søndergaard. The two were frustrated at the complexity of choosing a good bottle of wine and knowing which wines were worth buying. The company has seen ten consecutive years of growth. Vivino sold nearly $150 million of wine globally in 2019 and is on track to do more than double that in 2020, powered by a community of 48 million wine enthusiasts. The five-star Vivino Rating system is now the world’s largest consumer voice on wine.
